About
Alnmouth Golf Club overlooks the splendours of both Foxton and Alnmouth Bay on the Northumberland coastline in a designated area of outstanding natural beauty. It is widely regarded as one of the finest golf courses in the North East of England. Although the course has a coastal location it has parkland turf and a reputation for the fine quality of the greens and superb presentation. Recently chosen as one of the TOP 100 HIDDEN GEM golf courses in the UK by Golf Monthly magazine. We are a private members club with active Mens and Ladies sections, friendly clubhouse atmosphere and very strong junior section. Visitors are always given a warm Northumbrian welcome at Alnmouth where we have buggies for hire and first class practice facilities. A special feature of "Foxton", as we are generally known, is a 26-bed Dormy House within the clubhouse offering hotel accommodation, English Tourism 3 Star rating, to groups of visiting golfers in very comfortable twin or single rooms with en suite facilities. We offer a full range of stay and play golfbreaks for groups and couples. SKY SPORTS TV AVAILABLE IN THE CLUBHOUSE. A good experience even in mid November after poor weather
For a mid November round of golf we found the course, clubhouse and general welcome from the professional and catering staff to be really good. 4 out 5 due to 3 hole’s being closed due to very wet conditions. Definitely a course I would like to play here again when conditions are better but the views and experience was still great.
Many thanks for your kind review. We hope to see you again soon to play the holes you missed out on.

    Excellent in every respect
Just returned from a fantastic golf break staying at Alnmouth Golf Club’s Dormy House for two nights under a package deal with 3 rounds of golf playing seahouses, Dunstanburgh and Foxton (Alnmouth) and dinner, bed and breakfast. Excellent value in every respect. I just wanted to say how much both myself and the rest of the visiting party enjoyed our stay with you. Everything was perfect, the organisation, the rooms, the breakfasts and evening meals. What really made our stay so perfect was however your staff, the kitchen staff, waitresses and in particular the bar staff we had the pleasure of being served by. I would like to however particularly mention the two bar staff that looked after us do well during our two night stay namely Sadie & Martha (Martha we understand was actually quite new). They were exceptional, so pleasant and friendly… simply amazing. You have a beautiful course and club house and you should be very proud to have staff such as you have. Hopefully we can return again soon, in the meantime thank you again. Best wishes Graham ( ex room no3 Dormy House)

Great course, great staff, and lovely setting.
My wife & I have been making a golf trip to Foxton Hall for the last 4 years. There have sometimes been 8 couples but this year we were down to 6 couples as we have unfortunately lost two good mates. The staff are wonderful and cannot do enough for you. The course is great and a good test of golf. However, the Admin side of the business clearly are not that bothered about your return trip? Both last year and this year the weekends that we had been could not be rebooked as they had let someone else book for that weekend next year? We are not impressed.
Firstly, I’m glad you had a great stay and enjoyed the wonderful course, facilities and welcome we have to offer. I apologise you feel aggrieved that we cannot accommodate all of your party for the corresponding weekend in 2025. Please let me explain below. As you are aware Alnmouth Golf Club is becoming increasingly popular with a thirty-five percent increase in bookings for the dormy house since the pandemic. Most of our trade is from repeat customers who come back every year with some for over seventy consecutive years. We have always taken bookings for the following year from March (this is not a new policy) and whilst in previous years it may have been easy to just rebook at departure for the following year some customers need to alter dates due to various commitments and our increased popularity has resulted in parties booking on some of the traditional dates of other groups. In your case, this has happened and unfortunately, our booking system does not distinguish between guests to provide any heads up. The admin staff work hard ensuring the 4500 dormy guest bookings each season have a great time taking the stress away from organising a golf break yourself.

    Non-golfers made very welcome!
We had walked from Alnmouth Beach towards Seaton Point along the sands, and returned via the coast path. The path takes you over the golf course, but when we reached the club house a notice invited non-members to come in to the bar. So we did! We had a lovely cup of tea, and the lady behind the bar made us feel very welcome. Its a great spot to break your walk and have some refreshments. The club feels very select, and the outdoor seating area was very pleasant.
Many thanks for your kind review and glad you were made to feel welcome.

    Beautiful setting excellent food
After a long walk we called at Foxton Hall for a coffee, when we saw the menu we stayed for late lunch which was perfect my husband had sea food platter and I had scampi both beautiful and so well priced. The setting in the rose garden was perfect and the service second to none we even got a treat for our dog. Dogs are allowed in the gardens but not inside, today if didn’t matter but we would love to come again for early evening meal. In the UK it’s not often possible to sit outside in an evening as it’s too cold and we cannot leave the dog in our rented accomodation. We will definitely be back, weather permitting. I wonder if Foxton Hall would consider a small corner of the indoor space to be dog friendly, just so we don’t have to rely on the weather to enjoy such a lovely meal
Many thanks for your kind review and we are so glad you enjoyed the Rose Garden. It is a special place on a sunny day. I will ask the committee about allowing dogs inside the clubhouse. We hope to see you again soon.

Grew up playing this course, and the course itself is great, and very well kept, but the members make it unplayable. I was in a 2 ball with a buggy, and it's just taken 2hrs 30 mins to play 9 holes.

The course is completely clogged with geriatric 4 balls, all of whom play incredibly slowly and badly. We had to wait for every shot, and ended up walking off after 9.

A 60 quid green fee for that experience is obscene.

If you want to play golf in Alnmouth, go play the village course for 25 quid (better pace of play, and in just as good condition), or if you want to spend 60 quid on a round, go play Bamburgh Castle. It's prettier, in good nick, and the members play at a reasonable speed, unlike Foxton.

As discussed in our email exchange Unfortunately when playing a course in a two ball in a buggy you cannot expect to have the golf course to yourself especially during a peak time. If you wish to play at off peak times you may be able to get around faster than peak times. Therefore playing in a two ball in a buggy you can expect to be held up by “old hackers” (Our members) but as I can see from the tee sheet we have nearly 200 golfers on the course that day and with limited daylight hours we need people to play in fourball formats. As you have stated our course is in great condition and we provide a great food & Beveridge facility- hence why we charge a £60 green fee comparable with the likes of Bamburgh & Goswick. Yes 5 hours in unacceptable and we aim for a fourball to play in four hours or slightly less. Being a golfer myself I do understand the frustrations of slow play We have offered a 241 voucher as an apology for another visit which you may wish to take advantge of.

Booked this 2night 3 rounds golf break on the recommendation of the pro at my home course and I owe him a pint when I see him next!
The hotel and staff were fantastic and couldn't be more helpful. The rooms were spot on and the food and drink on offer would be hard to beat at any golf club.
The course was a revelation. It was immaculate considering the winter and spring we've had and some of the holes were a joy to look at nevermind play.
As a two ball playing amongst fourballs we found the alleged "geriatric" members to be some of the nicest most accomodating people I've ever met on a golf course.
Just booked for next June and can't wait to open my shoulders on the 16th again!

This Golf Club has absolutely wonderful views both from the course and Club House. We were here recently for a day's event and the catering was superb. The menu is straightforward but with plenty of choice, including vegetarian choice. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Eating with the marvellous views and well tended grounds was a great pleasure. We were also impressed with the covid controls in place which were discrete but effective. There are lovely walks from here down to the village and coast so day visitors who are not golfers are very welcome to eat here. We look forward to our next visit.

Excellent day out, the course was in great condition considering the weather conditions we've been experiencing recently! The food and the atmosphere in the clubhouse were excellent. David in the pro shop was excellent, good to chat to, and extremely knowledgeable. This was money well spent for me and my friends, if I could write 4 different excellent reviews I would.

I have been to the club on numerous occasions - usually to play with a coffee and sandwich afterwards. Today we decided just to have lunch.

The setting of the bar is excellent with views across the golf course. The service was friendly and efficient.

The menu has a good range of reasonably priced food. The sandwiches ordered were very good and the good portion of fish and chips (with peas and tar tar sauce) were well presented.

The fish was very fresh with a nice crisp batter. The chips were a bit hard and not so well cooked - but not bad enough to complain.

Overall the club house was a very pleasant place to be on a cold, windy but sunny day.

Delightful food and friendly people. We were staying quite close and walked the coastal path which runs along the edge of the course. Stopped off to ask if they were open to non members and they were. We had a couple of evenings there, beer and wine very nice and the fish platter was absolutely delicious. Really good service as well. The bar and waiting staff were great. (And although we are not golfers, all the people who were playing were very friendly too!) Sitting outside at the tables looking into the greens was so quiet and relaxing. We took our two border terriers with us as well. Well behaved dogs welcome in outside area’s.

Very pleasant place to stop and enjoy some refreshment. The bar had a fine selection of beers and the ambience in the clubhouse was very friendly and welcoming as were the staff. The selection at the time of cakes was very impressive and more to the point delicious!!

Popped into Alnmouth to visit the Village Cafe only to discover it closed for annual holiday. Hungry and disappointed I ventured into the golf clubhouse. What a revelation. A modest menu of sandwiches, baked potatoes and burger but very modestly priced. Service was quick, comfortable lounge with lovely views over course. Outside seating available. Excellent burger. Well worth a visit
