White horse hill is a great place to go for a walk and admired the view of the surrounding areas. Definitely good for walking dogs. There is parking available and also disabled parking.

The view from the top of White Horse Hill is amazing. Very beautiful. Weirdly the one thing you can’t actually see very well is the White Horse itself. You can easily spend a good part of the day walking around the hill. It’s a really good way to spend a sunny Sunday afternoon. The car park is quite small and there are no toilets there, and there is no cafe just a little van selling bacon sandwiches etc.

Any season, any weather, this place never ceases to amaze.
Take picnics, dogs, kites, whatever floats your boat and enjoy the best of British countryside. The horse is easily accessible from the National Trust car park, for the less able there is some specialist parking closer to the top of the hill (not really wheelchair friendly).
See the bronze age fort and where St.George slayed his dragon, this place is truly historic.
Grab an icecream on the way back or drop down to Uffington for a fine pint in one of the public houses.

I visited here with the purpose of taking a shot of the white horse from my drone. The main car park us about a 10 minute uphill walk to the horse but there is very limited disabled parking closer by.
Rom ground level the view of the horse is limited but by using a drone I got the angle I wanted.
Due to erosion you can walk either on the horse or next to it, but that's only right.
There's no facilities at either the horse or car park.

Visiting the White Horse means a wonderful hill side walk from the car park with lovely views over the Oxfordshire countryside. It’s a steady climb from the car park to the site of the white horse. The actual horse is roped off and so you never get a good sight of it.
From the horse you can then explore the hill top fort next to it again with beautiful views. The most disappointing thing is that it is we never really found a good view of the horse either from above or below.

Two weekends a year the National Trust maintain ("scouring") the White Horse to maintain its appearance. This has been, in one form or another, been going on for centuries. So it was good to be a part of it. People of all ages can participate. I saw the advert for it in a National Trust newsletter which the parents brought back from an attraction nearby. You book a half hour slot to help. There is plenty of tools and equipment. The car park is nearby and there are attractions such as Wayland's Smithy and the Ridgeway to look at afterwards.

There is plenty of parking, which was £2 for 2 hours. In the car park was an ice cream van, for those who fancied an ice cream. There is an information board giving a brief history on the White Horse and the Castle.
From the car park we turned left and followed the trail for a short distance to a view point, which ended up being the best place to take a photo of the white horse from.
From the view point it only takes 10 mins to walk to the horse. Once there you are able to only see a bit of the horse being so close.
The views across the countryside are fantastic.
You can follow the road down to Dragon Hill, the view of the White Horse is okay, but not as good as from the view point that it not far from the car park.

Twice a year the National Trust ask for volunteers to help refreshing / covering the horse with chalk. Today was my turn and I loved it. There is a car park for white horse hill (£4 all day or free to members, take your car for a QR code scan). The car park is a short walk (about 15 minutes up a medium hill) from the white horse.
You can’t see much of the horse when you are on top of it, the best views are from the road / village below or dragon hill. The horse itself is usually fenced off but today we got up close and personal,
The chalking event was well organised by the NT. We were provided with hammers, gloves, a kneeling pad, instructions and raw materials (chalk rocks). We were instruced to remove grass where it was growing throguh the chalk face and then bash rocks to small pices and dust, and tamp it down to a firm smooth surface. Apparently this provides a firm base for the later addition of bigger chalk lumps. This was all easy was surprisingly tiring. Yesterday’s session was cancelled due to ran so they wanted as much done today as possible. I did an hour but was then ready to stop.
The chalking event should be booked in advance throught the National Trust website. It was free but booked up well in advance. This years event were two days in July and three over August Bank Holiday weekend.
A brilliant day out, suitable for all ages and strongly recommend.

Basically there's a hill to walk around and look at. You can use it as a starting point for various long walks in the area, covering a lot of archaeological sites. The car park might have an ice cream van in it.
The X47 claims to run on Saturdays from Wantage.

I was there 45 years ago, not as young as I was then. I did not see the horse, even though we climbed to the top of the hill. I would like to find out where the spot is from the road where the horse is visible. I will be there in August. Thank you.

I have always wanted to see the Uffington horse. We are staying in Salisbury & have a spare day in early Sept, but do not have our own transport. Any ideas how we could reach Uffington & see this horse using public transport or is there a day tour which includes it. Also after reading the above reports, is there a spot that you can see the whole horse on the hillside, maybe from further away?
