Little gem in pretty seaside village.
Aug 2019
Having walked along the coast path from Minehead I spent an enjoyable couple of hours wandering around Porlock Weir in the sunshine. The little Boat Shed Museum was a surprise find, absolutely packed full of interesting exhibits and local information.
I could have spent an hour there, but had a bus to catch, so will try to look in again another day.

excellent section on the first female coastguard commander.

A winning museum in a number of ways; firstly its free (although they certainly welcome donations). Secondly it is very local but equally covers many nautical topics. It also has a section devoted to ihe coastguard and its first female commander - a telling account of the duties and responsibilities that this post had.
For a small one room museum, there is a lot to see , and something for everyone .

Tiny museum with free entry in Porlock Weir. A single room but well filled with interesting items. Definitely worth a quick visit.

An interesting harbour, shoreline and hamlet.

This is a step back in time. Down narrow lanes beyond Porlock, revived by the revival of oyster cultivation (and they are superb oysters), the area is unique. A ramble of houses, a pub and a few cottage industries, including a very nice cafe and eatery, are set around the weir which is in effect a tidal harbour with gates to keep the water in to unload the boats when it was a working harbour. Now it is a pretty spot for lunch, for walks and for a stroll along the pebbled beach. Well worth a visit but please drive slowly and carefully down those lanes - they are narrower than you think.

Interesting liitle village and boat shed museum. Very relaxing small-boat harbour. Bring your own refreshments because when we visited nearly everything was vacated or up for sale. Accessed by 2 narrow roads but ample parking. Worth a visit if you want picturesque coupled with peace and quiet.

Something for Nothing!
Jun 2018 • Couples
Not often you get something for nothing but if you are poogling around the wier then pop in to The Boatshed & spend half an hour looking at the eclectic collection of bits & pieces. This is someones love of their life for all to enjoy & free to go in..but do please stick something in the contribution box..you rarely get something for nothing these days!
