Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Looking on the website it's noted as open between 9am and 5pm , after a 40 mile round trip there is a sign outside saying closed. Seems like a simple online amendment was beyond the buffoons who managed this place .

So very sad to read you are closing. This is one of our favourite places to visit. Lunches are always excellent and the shop is wonderful. We were so looking forward to visiting after lockdown.
All very best wishes to you

I thought I should write a review of the food as there have been a few negative comments about the scones/ cakes which nearly put me off eating lunch here. As there’s no menu of their website I wasn’t sure I’d there would be more than sandwiches but there was a good selection of cooked food and a children’s menu available too. A lovely goats cheese and onion marmalade starter. Then I had a lovely homemade fish pie with big chunks of smoked haddock and salmon in a very tasty sauce with a mash potato topping - lots of tasty melted cheese on top too! It came with a side of root vegetables which could have done with some sauce/ butter on, or better still, swapping for greens instead- just my personal taste! My daughter had sausage chips and beans- 2 large good quality, crispy sausages and very nice crispy chips, she was very happy! My vegetarian dad had a very hearty homemade macaroni cheese with chips and salad and my husband had sausage and mash. There was also soup, jacket potato, quiche and various other things on offer. I’ve previously had the 3 salmon salad last year which was delicious.
The gardens were closed and run down but I think that’s due to the time of year but the gift shop is worth a visit! I will happily eat here again!

Bit disappointed with this. Had a scone which was a bit hard/elderly and coffee. Not a great choice of things to have. Pleasant staff.

Having looked at beautiful photos on websites I had high hopes for this visit. Unfortunately this was a let down. Although we visited in autumn when flowers and shrubs are sleeping, the whole feel of the place felt tired and run down. The cafe is very dated and food poor. Not the garden experience that I would have expected. I imagine the gardens will fare much better come spring, but whole place is in need of a makeover.

A perfect place to stop-off and eat/relax. There is a really well stocked garden centre and shop offering everything from local food produce, to wines, gifts and clothing. There is also a beautiful short riverside walk. You will not be disappointed.

Expected more smoked products than what was on offer, I expected to see the actual smoking process being carried out. If it was able to be seen, then I’m sorry I missed a visit but nothing was pointed out. Cafe was a little dated but food was ok.
