About
The Shearwater operates out of Ullapool Harbour and has been featured on the BBC, ITV, Landward, Out of Doors, and on American and Australian television programs. Our Skipper has years of experience in the loch and off-shore and our commentator comes from a family who have worked the loch since the 50s, both touring and fishing and has also worked for the Scottish Wildlife Trust and volunteers with British Divers Marine Life Rescue, SMASS, RSPB and other marine charities - both are WiSe Scheme accredited. We sail Lochbroom, Annat Bay and the Summer Islands, taking in the Scoraig and Coigach peninsulas and some of the most beautiful scenery and wildlife in the world! We offer 2 hour 15-minute cruises - generally morning and afternoon. In the summer we run every day - off-season we are weather dependent and also need a minimum number of people to sail so please call and book to ensure we are sailing. Please contact us to discuss bookings - groups, family & private bookings welcome.

We saw a porpoise, seals, sheep, horses, birds, amazing Summer Islands scenery, and a perspective on Ullapool that we couldn't have gotten without going out on this cruse. We learned a lot about the history of the clearances from our cruise guide who was also very knowledgeable about local sea life, birds, and geography.

Marvellous vessel and crew, well worth doing if you’re Ullapool. Wildlife, history and geography rolled in to one.

Noel (I hope I got that right) was a great guide giving many insights in to the local history which was well received.
Dolphins
sea eagles
Minke whales
Seals
Cormorants
Gannets
Guillemots
And much more we’re seen.

The minke were spotted less then a mile from our return to Ullapool and it was nice that once spotted the boats skipper stuck around (even though they needed to be in to offload and load up again) to give the best chance for all onboard to have the opportunity to see them
as they dove and returned for another breath.

We will go again as the trips cover different areas depending on sea conditions.

Many thanks

Great trip, really worthwhile. Saw seals, sea eagles, dolphins and minke whales plus many waterfalls. Great commentary too and able to move about the boat to get photos.

Wow! Wildlife and history. Sea eagles, two species of dolphins and two species of seals! I was really impressed by the way that our guide approached wildlife. He allowed the dolphins to come to us, and I never felt like we pursued the wild life or invaded their space. He also actively participates in multiple local conservation efforts.
Thank you for a wonderful experience!

Absolutely superb wildlife, weather and scenery was stunning (was this Scotland as I know it?).
Noel and crew were extremely knowledgeable and competent. Both as regards flora f fauna and the history and topology of the area.
We were very lucky with the conditions plus the wildlife encountered, over 100 dolphins in a pod, not to mention minke whale harbour seals.

We had one of our best wildlife experiences ever today on board the Shearwater Cruises 1030 trip out of Ullapool. The scenery was totally breath taking but the highlight was an immense pod of common dolphins leaping and swimming around our boat...little, young dolphins, too. It was spectacular and they stayed with us for ages...maybe 20 minutes or more! THEN, as if that wasn't already the best experience, two immense sea eagles lifted off a nearby Summer Isle and gently flapped off!! It's an over used word but honestly, it was truly awesome. Thank you to our captain and crew for a hugely enjoyable morning out...we learned so much from your commentary ...about the history and geology of the local area, about the fascinating vocalisations of dolphins, about conservation in the marine world and all delivered in a fun way. Naughty sense of humour,Captain! Anyway, it was just the best and if you are in the area, give yourself a treat and go on one if the cruises. You will remember it,I'm sure, for the rest of your days.

Absolutely fantastic experience! We have done few other wildlife boat trips before but this one is just the best! Extremely good value too! We were so lucky to see several pods of dolphins. No idea how many we saw, must have been over 100!! All playing around the boat. We saw seals, gannets and sea eagles as well! Really enjoyed the commentary and funny jokes! Will definitely come back! Thank you so much ❤️

I initially made an enquiry by email in May, and once we had firmed up our travel plans, we called to confirm our places. Easy as that.
We were booked on the afternoon sailing and hot there with plenty of time, so I watched the resident Seal bobbing around the harbour.
Our group of 4 managed to get on the front where it was quite windy, but we bobbed back inside to warm up a bit.
We saw Seals and Sea Eagles and went round the lovely summer isles before heading back. On the way back, we encountered a huge pod of dolphins with young in tow.
This was a magical experience and very informative with Noel's brilliant and witty commentary throughout. Thanks again to everyone at Shearwater Cruises for making our day out with you so flawless, and we would definitely look to board with you again should we be up there
Thanks

We were phoned at the last minute to say spaces were available for what was a brilliant trip. The commentator transmitted his own excitement and awe at seeing the wildlife, and gave us lots of historical information about the area too. He was very well informed and we saw seals and sea eagles with plenty of dolphins. One pod was apparently very rare, last seen off Lewis, so he took many photos to send to those who track such things. There was a feeling of timelessness, and we were out for an extra half hour due to the sightings.
