Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A unique experience to see the most remote and one of the most remote inhabited Islands in Britain. Great fast comfortable crossing

A day that will live long in the memory! St Kilda is an extraordinary place and it can be perfectly described by the name of Sea Harris’ boat, Enchanted Isle.
A 2.5hr cruise on the vessel seems daunting but it flew by with good craic provided by Iain Angus, our skipper for the day, and his brother and Chief Mate, Malky. A brilliant duo who definitely helped make a great day out even better.
I’d also like to give Seumas a shout out. I definitely fell into the nightmare customer category due to a couple of cancellations. Nonetheless, he was incredibly understanding and accommodating for my situation.
St Kilda was on my Bucket List and it did not disappoint. I could spend an age describing the magical day we had and spectacular views we witnessed but, as we said halfway during our walk, photos will never do it justice - nor will my description of the day. Instead, I urge you to experience it for yourself!
A few tips to, hopefully, enhance your trip:
- Regardless of how sunny or warm it is, bring warm, waterproof clothing for the boat trip.
- Take a travel/motion sickness pill before the trip - “prevention is better than cure”.
- Take suncream.
- I would highly recommend the Conachair walk.
- Bring walking poles for the steep accent of Conachair.
- Bring swimwear and a towel for a swim in the bay.
- 5hrs on the island seems a long time - it isn’t. Don’t waste a minute.
Once you leave Hirta, you think the trip is over….it isn’t, trust me. The boat tour around Boreray and the stacks is astounding.
On your 2.5hr return journey to Leverburgh, I am sure you will begin to start thinking of when you will book your next trip back out.

We were booked on a date which turned out to be windy and far too choppy for the speedboat. Luckily, after being contacted in plenty of time, we were able to change our date. It was an amazing experience from start to finish! We saw basking sharks and dolphins on the way over. The human story of these islands is fascinating and the little museum explained something of the lives of the people who used to live there. (There is also a museum called Seallam! on the island of Harris (in Northton) that has more details and records of the different families that left St Kilda in 1930 and what happened to them subsequently). We all enjoyed looking at the birds wheeling around the stacks on the way back. We were very well looked after during our journeys including the kind support of our daughter when she was seasick. This was dealt with so calmly and efficiently! Thank you so much!
Thank you also for the cake and tea-just what we needed after a day of walking around the village and up to the gap. Truly a once in a lifetime experience that we will cherish.

We booked a 2-day window but the forecast was poor for those days. Sea Harris contacted us a couple of days prior to our window and booked us on to an earlier trip. Absolutely first-class service. We were so pleased that we were still able to go.
Went on a glorious day. The boat is comfy and fast but we stopped a couple of times on the way to view sea eagles and dolphins, which was a bonus. The two crew, Owen and Ian, looked after us well and were friendly and knowledgeable about the islands and St. Kilda.
St. Kilda is a wonderful place and we had almost 5 hours to explore. There are a few walks, varying in challenge, but the highlight for us was the remains of the community that used the live there. It’s a fascinating place. We finished off the trip with some ginger loaf (delicious) and tea, and then a sail around the stacks with the nesting sea birds. Fantastic experience.
This was a highlight from our Hebridean adventure and we’d recommend booking your St. Kilda trip with Sea Harris. Great from start to finish.

A truly fantastic trip, couldn’t have asked for a better day and great and knowledgeable crew Iain Angus & Owen were very friendly and made the day memorable, the sea birds on the cliffs on the way home were amazing. And the dolphins racing alongside the boat just fantastic.

We had great weather & the sea was only a little bit bumpy. A fast crossing, but still took over 2 hours. We had 5 hours to explore ashore and then an hours tour around Bernera and the sea stacks to see the amazing nesting sites (gannets mainly. Enjoyed seeing puffins on the water and seals on the rocks. Stunning scenery.. The crew were great - friendly and helpful and knowledgeable. Brilliant long day (11 hours in total).

It was a great day out. The crew were friendly, helpful and a wealth of information about the islands. The cruise around the archipelago was something I will always remember. To come off the island to be offered tea and homemade cake was a treat.

For what is a couple of hours of boat time, it was a really good fast pretty smooth crossing. Very well organised and you are kept well informed about changes. Very friendly, knowledgeable crew. Fascinating day out with a really interesting tour of the other islands.

Hi, my wife is registered disabled but can walk with the aid of a stick. Would this trip be suitable even if sh is permitted to stay on board the boat while I explore Hirta?

It's not something I would recommend and you would need to contact the owners of Sea Harris directly in any regard. I'm not sure this would be suitable or practical. This was a full on 12 hour day for us - you are looking at 2 1/2 hours each way, a good 4 hours on Hirta and then a trip to the stacks before returning home. We were exhausted. You also need to be able to get on and off the boat and access the toilet in whatever the sea conditions might be.

Is this trip suitable for small children?

Hi, thank you for contacting us. Due to the type of boat trip this is, we do not recommend the St.Kilda trip for children under 12. Hope this helps, if not then please get in touch with me via the website if you require anything further.
