Unfortunately not a visitor but have taken delivery down here in Cornwall of the most beautiful sheepskin rug. Excellent service and prompt delivery. A gift for my son which far exceeds my expectations. Fabulous!

We had booked the short tour and were glad we had as David gave us an interesting insight into the processes and business. We found some Christmas presents in the shop as well as getting some advice on re-fluffing (my term!) a sheepskin rug that we had bought a number of years before. We ended our visit with an excellent hot chocolate and cake in the Yurt cafe.

A really interesting explanation of the tannery by friendly staff, who were kind enough to begin our tour 45 minutes earlier than booked! Very knowledgeable about the tannery and could answer any questions we had. The workshop is 100% accessible, with a well stocked gift shop up 10 or so steps. At the end we had to treat ourselves with top quality sheepskin rugs and cushions, with the guide giving us advice on how to care for these!

We’ve spent so much money in this shop over the years. We’ve been coming to Skye off and on over the past decade and always made it a point to stop in for a visit. In total we’ve purchased three sheepskin rugs from them but we’ve made other expensive purchases as well, like a sheepskin bomber for my husband. Anyway, we recently washed all of our sheepskin rugs and had them drying outside. The larger one, which was a double sheepskin that we paid about £200 for, we had in the sun for a bit when it was dripping wet over some bamboo. It left an orangey streak down the centre of the sheepskin where it was exposed to the most sunlight. Nothing was in their care instructions about not drying sheepskin in the sunlight and when I brought it up to them, they were surprised that this even occurred. We used their sheepskin shampoo and did everything we thought was right to clean and dry it. It turns out from searching the internet that sheepskin reverts back to its natural colour in the sun and can even turn yellow and in our case a very dark yellow. I asked that they compensate us in some way and heard nothing back. I guess this is the case of taking advantage of the tourists and that there’ll be many more to take our place. We won’t be back for another visit there.

Response from Skyeskyns W, Guest Relations Manager at Skyeskyns
Responded 30 Sep 2020
Hello, please accept our apologies for the lack of response to this review and to your email, we have been working on very limited capacity. The absence of a response to your email is not to our usual standard and we can't apologise enough. We strive to respond to all feedback, whether positive or negative, and your email looks like it got lost between members of staff as we have been working on very reduced staffing for some months due to the current restrictions. Thank you for bringing it to our attention, we will now pick up on that correspondence directly. Each sheepskin is different and any colour bleed quite rare. We hope you will know from your previous visits that we take pride in looking after all customers, whether they visit the shop or our website. This is particularly the case for repeat customers who have been coming back to us over the 37 years the business has been operating and we would certainly not be declining returns or compensations on the basis you describe. We are only a small business and each customer is important to us. We can only apologise that you were let down on this occasion.
