Barmouth developed as one of the major ship building centres in Wales during the 18th & 19th centuries. The harbour still has a small fishing industry but is mainly used by pleasure craft. The estuary is home to Merioneth Yacht Club. Lining the edge of the harbour are cafes, ice-cream parlours and a pub with pleasant gardens to sit out in and watch the world go by.

As the tide comes in the boats move about on the tethering lines, lovely place to sit and watch the sunset accross the water, plenty of restaurants & cafes around the harbour.

Unfortunately no wildlife in the sea this time - I think we saw a sea otter on our last visit. But always a pleasant place to stroll. Let time pass by, look at all the boats etc. Not so good in the rain, but we...More

Great place for crab fishing with children. You can catch the ferry to Fairbourne across the bay. Plenty of places to shop and eat in town.

This makes a good place to stop for a coffee break on the way out of Criccieth to see North Wales, the Bridge across the water is very nice to look at.

Worth stopping off in Barmouth as there are numerous places to eat and drink, plenty of shops and a nice harbour area to sit and watch the world go by ( not on the day we visited as it was blowing a gale)

Travelling by train along the coast from Aberdovey provided wonderful views out to sea. We alighted in Barmouth itself, which is a traditional seaside town with arcades, beach cafes and fair rides. The harbour is a short stroll and provides a different feel; quieter and...More

sorry for delay had problems with my password I cannot think of any rooms in the area with balconies. A sea facing room is the best you can get -check on TripAdvisor.
