Ahu Akivi provides one of the most breathtaking examples of the Moai on Easter Island. It is told that they are representative of the seven explorers who came to the island to make way for the King Hotu Matu’a. Unlike the other Moai on the...More

The seven Moai here are the only ones on the island facing the sea. It is thought that they may commemorate the Polynesian explorers of kings who first came to the island. They stand looking back toward the Marquesas from which they came. Excellent and...More

First day in Easter Island was wet. Was disapointing. Then dried out. Next 3 days were dry & only rained at night. I took a tour to Ahu Akivi. A sacred place. The first 7 young tribe's men, went ahead of the fleet, to arrive...More

Nothing out of the ordinary, once you have seen many moais, except for the inland location. A nice sidetrip, if you have the time.

During my journey through Rapa Nui, l learned that virtually all of the Moai face inland, away from the ocean. So, it was fascinating to finally see Ahu Akivi. The 7 Moai on this Ahu face the ocean. My Rapa Nui guide advised that the...More

The seven moaïs are impressive. The site was restored with precision. The moaïs are facing inland because they represent the seven explorers that where sent by the king (think polynesia) to discover the island. One of the most interesting site on the island. Worth your...More

1 of the most impressive platform of statues on the island and I guess therefore the world. I ended up visiting this twice, first was by car and second entirely by accent on foot. I walked from Hanga Roa to Terevaka and on the way...More

These are only moabs situated inland, instead of along the seashore. These are explorers. A good place to visit for nice pictures. Amazing!

These moai are unusual as they are facing the sea rather than facing inland. A pleasant, quiet visit as this isn't as popular with tour groups. It was also interesting to see inland areas. Nearby... just up the road are the Te Ana caves which...More

I wouldn't recommend for you to do this. If you're looking for a nice sunset setting, I'd rather recommend Atahai, just (south) outside Hanga Roa, close to the cemetery. In fact, many say this is the best place to watch a... More
