Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is one of the recommended stops on the island. It does not disappoint. Check out the beautiful moláis standing guard a bit further back from the beach! Relax on the beach or take a swim! An excellent spot to snorkel and a very safe place to swim! If you get hungry drag yourself up to one of the restaurants. The food and drinks are good here and the scenery can’t be beat!

Besides a beautiful beach you get Moai in good condition with a gorgeous background.
Also some ruins, explore the area a lot to see.
Watch out for falling coconuts!

Located on Anakena beach, the Ahu is not only popular for its location but also due to the fact that four out of five standing moai have their topknots resting precariously on their heads. And it is the only Moai that is by the beach.

Basically everyone goes to Ahu Tongariki for sunrise so this one is a little bit quiet until 9.30am.
The moai are great and it's one of the only places around that offers a restroom and a restaurant (although chices are limited)

With the sand beach full of swimmers and sun bathers, plus the beautiful stand of mature palm trees, this row of moai are viewed differently than others around the island. An added benefit of this grouping was the number that had topknots. All-in-all a very worthwhile destination when touring the island.

Thanks for reading. If you’ve found this helpful I’ll appreciate a thumbs up below.

Anakena is one of the most popular places on Easter Island, the beach is amazing and it's historically very important since the first king Hotu Matua arrived here with his boat. But there's much more, here you can see the wonderful Ahu Nau Nau, on this platform there are the Moais in the best condition of the whole island. They remained covered by sand for a long time and this preserved the stone much much more than in other sites. Now that the statues are restored, it's possible to see all the carving abilities of the old Rapa Nui. Noses, ears and the facial features are almost perfect, hands and back engraving are still clearly visible. Ahu Nau Nau is emotionally touching, it brings you back at the times where these enormous statues were build, these Moais are almost as they were. You can sit on the grass and admire them for hours, they marvellous! The back of the platform is also very interesting, besides being a good example of stone construction, here you can spot the head of an older Moai re-used to build the wall. Nau Nau, another magical place of Rapa Nui!

This is by far one of the best places to capture a sunset with Moai in the foreground. They will be silhouetted. To see them in full light, morning is best.

Visiting Anakena Beach you find Ahu Nau Nau just behind the beach. The Moai were preserved in the sand so Details are great. Most have their Topknots. These were restored in 1978. Off to the around this area you have Palm trees, that were introduced to the island in the 60's from Tahiti. Great photo opportunities if you beat the crowds. Their is a nice little restaurant that serves great food and drinks and very reasonably priced, The Anakena Hopu.

A must visit is Ahu Nau Nau. If one rents a car, a rental car is much cheaper than the VERY expensive tours and one can drive around the entire island and see ALL the Moai's.

Ahu Nau Nau is the main ahu at Anakena Beach. Seven moai stand on a platform 60 m (197 ft) long. Of these, five are extra special. Their facial features remained intact because when they were toppled, they fell forward into sand which protected them from erosion. Four wear their original topknots (pukao), making them part of an elite group that includes the Ahu Ko Te Riku in Tahai and one moai in Tongariki. Anakena Beach evokes the ‘wow’ factor, do not miss!
