Lagoon Safaris, Lifou: Address, Phone Number, Lagoon Safaris Reviews: 4/5

Lagoon Safaris
The dive centre is situated in the tribal lodgings of Mr Benoit Bonua on the waterfront where the cruise ships arrive. We organise 2 tank half-day dive trips to the untouched reefs on the north west coast of Lifou. These dive sites, well known for excellent visibilty, beautiful reefs and giant colorful fan corals, are very popular with photographers. We also organise introductory dives and dive training. We are a small dive centre and only cater for 8 divers per outing so it is necessary to book ahead.

Some of the best diving in New Caledonia
Feb 2020
We've dived in Koumac, Bourail, Ile des Pins and numerous sites from Noumea. Diving with Lagoon Safaris was one of the best experiences.

Showed up at 7:30am and everything was well underway. Geared up and on the boat in no time. We did 2 days of double dives and each site was stunning. The healthiest reef I've ever seen. Countless fan corals, swim throughs, sharks, lobster caves, just so much biodiversity. The operation itself was well run. The owner, Lucien, was the boat captain and our divemaster was Patrice. Both of them were professional, were customer-focused, and overall cool guys.

Initially it was hard to get them on the phone, but once I started messaging them on facebook it was simple. Their English is not the greatest, but they're already speaking two languages (their local language and French) and having to learn a third language is understandably difficult so just use the translate app if you're having problems.

Caution!terrible company that ignores reservation.Flaky!
Dec 2019
We ware blown reservation off and wasted precious time at Lifou.
I rarely post, but it's so terrible that I post to share it.

As you can see in other posts,
Even if you go to the meeting place at the right time, there is a risk that no one shows up.
Of course, your tour will not be held.
If you do not want to waste time, we strongly recommend that you should not book Lagoon safaris's tour.

The following is an experience story.
They blew reservation off three times!

1: One morning,We went to Lagoon safaris at a designated time, but there was no staff.
We call Lagoon safaris, but didn't connect, just the time passed.
We asked the local people around and managed to find out the mobile phone numbers of the staff.
The staff who answered the phone did not apologize and lied that we weren't there at the appointment time (we
waited hours from the time of the appointment!) And told us that we could tour in the afternoon.
Other customers who were waiting together gave up the tour.

2: When We went to Lagoon safaris at the designated time in the afternoon, there was no staff again.
When We called the staff, there was no apology again.
He said, “I misunderstood that I could go on a tour. It's okay tomorrow morning”
We were disappointed again and left.
We were stupid as we thought they would keep the promise.

3: After a while from the previous phone call,We received an E-mail saying that the next morning tour was gone. The reason is that the staff caught a cold and could not go to work. (We ware calling with him 2-3 hours ago!)
The next morning, when we happened to pass near Lagoon safaris,We saw the staff drinking alcohol with their friends.
They would have wanted to give it priority. It seems that they are working at that level of morality.

Be carefull.

3:前回の電話からしばらくして、翌朝のツアーがなくなったことを知らせるメールを受け取りました。その理由は、スタッフが風邪をひいて仕事に行けなかったからです。 (2〜3時間前に電話してたのに!)

Be warned - they don't show up
Dec 2019
I was keen to dive Lifou when on a cruise. Emails received very slow responses, often after follow ups, but eventually they said they could fit in with the ship schedule but we needed four divers. Through Facebook I found another guy keen to dive and we agreed that we'd pay for four spots to guarantee a double dive, if no one else booked. I communicated this via email and got a reply that they already had enough divers. We had clearly communicated that the ship would arrive at 8am and were told to get the first tender and we would be met on the Jetty at 8.30am.

I got up really early to get a ticket for the first tender and we were on the dock, at 8.30am on the dot. Only to find nobody to meet us. We wanderer around (lugging dive gear in the heat I might add) and found some guys who confirmed that the dive boat moored in the bay belonged to Lagoon Safaris. We trudged up the hill and were eventually directed to the ‘dive shop’ (which was a shipping container and a small shed) where we found a Japanese couple who were staying on the island and had booked a snorkelling trip and been told to meet there at 8.30am. We found our names written on a white board, with details of certification requirements and the other guys rental equipment needs. The place was deserted though and nobody in the village seemed able to tell us where the owners were. Eventually (about an hour later) the Japanese guy got a phone number for the dive shop and called. A woman on the other end said (in broken English) we should have been there at 7.30am, seeming to suggest that the boat had gone without us, even though it was still sitting in the bay (it is the one in the pictures on tripadvisor) and we had clearly communicated that the ship would arrive at Lifou at 8am. She said we would not be diving but someone would be there at “13 o’clock” for the snorkelers. Needless to say, when I saw them later that afternoon, nobody had turned up.

The day before I had experienced exceptional service at a dive shop in Port Vila who arranged a boat and dive guide, just for me. A functioning dive shop on Lifou could do very well out of cruise ship passengers, but not Lagoon Safaris, as it currently operates.

Lack of Diving in Lifou
Apr 2019 • Family
Bastien was great when we arranged the dives from New Zealand and we were super excited to dive in Lifou last week.
On the day, there was no one to greet us at the jetty as per instructions and no one at their dive school. Bastien was not answering his phone but the other number shown at the dive school was answered by someone out on a boat (diving?) who told me that it was too rough to dive and that the trip had been cancelled.
I later found the cancellation email he sent at 22:34 the night before which was rather short notice and I had no internet in any case.
I get it that trips are cancelled due to weather but ringing / texting / meeting me at the jetty to explain / leaving a message at the dive depot explaining the cancellation would have been the right thing to do. Instead I ran around for 30 minutes thinking that I had missed the trip and then spend $15 NZD ($5 a min can you believe) calling to find out what was going on. By which time anything else I could have booked myself onto had already gone...

Hello dear Markisan11, We are sorry that our day did not live up to your expectations. As you know we are dependent on the weather, in case of strong winds or unfavorable sector to see dangerous for the access on the sites of dives, we are forced to cancel the exits the day before for the following day sometimes. Be sure that we have taken into account all your remarks and that everything has been done so that it will not happen again in the future. With our sincerest apologies Hoping to have the pleasure of welcoming you again soon. The Lagoon Safaris team

Excellent scuba diving on Lifou with Lagoon Safaris
Oct 2016 • Couples
We travelled to Lifou on a cruise ship and had emailed Lagoon Safaris a day a before to organise diving. If it was organised by the ship the price would be double and emailing was efficient. We hired all the gear rather than take our own. One snag we hadn't thought of was to take our own computer. The boat captain and dive master were really nice, attentive and courteous. Very good dive sites and we loved the diving. Nice clear water conditions and temperature about 25 below and 22 degrees above. Excellent operation altogether.

We would like to thank Annabelle for accommodating a couple of avid snorkellers while on our cruise in May, we had an amazing time and were looked after and had lots of time to snorkel with beautiful clear water lots of fish and coral along the cliff edge and my first time seeing reef sharks, which was the highlight for my husband.
we look forward to our next trip to Lifou
thanks again

Beautiful Underwater Sights
Oct 2015 • Couples
My wife and I went on two dives with Lagoon Safaris. The sites were quite beautiful with plenty of healthy corals and fish. The dive boat was of a decent size and the crew was experienced. The boat left conveniently straight from the local dock and the dive sites were within 20 minutes of it. Even though we brought our equipment along we noticed that Lagoon's dive equipment was in very good condition. All in all we enjoyed a nice day diving as we expected for such a remote location. The owner, Annabella, was charming, easy going and helpful is all regards.

Great dive.. Unique location..
Nov 2015 • Couples
I have a 2 boat dive recently when in Lifou for the day coming from a cruise ship. It was an enjoyable dive in a unique location in New Caledonia. This is not very touristy place and the dive sites are in a good condition, good corals and saw some reef sharks. The dive included a fun and scenic speed boat ride to get to the site. Recommended.

Lagoon safari - just stunning!!
May 2015 • Solo
We arrived on Pacific Pearl in May to the most beautiful place on earth- Lifue Island. I stayed with my two kids at the beach while my hubby went diving with adorable and very professional diver - Annabella. It was his first dive away from New Zealand but the one to remember, he said. He would highly recommend to anyone, if you email Annabell (just google her lagoon Safari Lifue company) and explain your age, experience and the timeframe, she would recommend you the best possible option for you. She was very prompt with her email replies and the price of the dive was very affordable, including the whole gear and the tanks. I think they except credit cards, but have some cash with you, it just easier. Just do it guys!! I am so glad I let my partner to do it ( and it wasn't easy to stay with two under 4 y.o. Kids by myself at the beach. But when else, we will go to Lifue? Just make most of it!! Thank you for you Annabell, it was incredible!!

Stunning diving!
May 2015 • Couples
We booked this trip based on previous Tripadvisor reviews. We were only in Lifou for one day as we were on a cruise which had a day visit here. We booked online before arriving, this meant that we could literally be met on the jetty with all of our gear which we hired all ready to go in our size and we had already emailed our medical certificates and dive certifications, so no fluffing about wasting time with all of that. We had three other divers with us, a boat driver and dive master. Unfortunately the dive master we had (Eduardo) didn't not speak English, although the boat driver did. It still meant that having a dive site briefing wasn't easy. I understand some basic French which certainly helped. We were taken to to dive sites on the far side of the island. The first was a canyon dive, and was brilliant. The variety of fish, corals and marine life was amazing and incredibly vibrant. Visibility was excellent the day we went. The second was more of a wall dive, with some canyons, swim throughs and a cave. Overall it was a fantastic day out, even seeing dolphins just in front of the bow of the boat!I absolutely recommend diving here with Lagoon Safari's.
