Description:

The "Parc National de Volcans" (or PNV as it's known by locals)...

The "Parc National de Volcans" (or PNV as it's known by locals) lies along the Virunga Mountains, with 8 ancient volcanoes, which are shared by Rwanda, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Just a short two hour drive from Rwanda's capital of Kigali, the park is a central location for exploring some distinctly Rwandan experiences. While a visit to the mountain gorillas is often at the top of visitor, the dramatic landscape also offers thrilling hiking and visits to the fascinating golden monkeys.

The Government of Rwanda extracts its pound of flesh in the form of a hefty fee to experience the gorillas - but if you can afford it, take a deep breath and do it. To be within touching distance of these incredible animals is just so exciting. We did a 'medium' hike which was easily do-able for me (overweight and... More

Good clothes, shoes, you get a walking stick, it is wet and goes upwards. Bur the pay-off is great. To meet the animals so close, so sasfe and have eye contact with our hairy friends, se the gorilla kids play...you will never forget it.

It takes at least 4 hours to walk up to the Bisoke Volcanoe, a suggestion is to avoid the raining season, as the hike turns difficult because of the mud. Important is to inform that you like tot hike with a guide, that at least makes the same pace, and the he takes care of your rhythm. In the contrary... More

Visiting the gorillas is an experience unlike anything else. You gather at the park headquarters while your guide applies to get you the best family to follow. Native dancers and coffee and tea entertain you for the half hour you are waiting. You then drive to the trailhead for the respective monkeys, gorillas or Dian Fossey trails you will be... More

Having lived in Africa for almost 40 years, I have been privileged to take many game safaris. But I have never had an experience like this gorilla trek. To see a gorilla family up close and personal, just to sit with a silverback and contemplate the jungle - I understand why many describe this as life-changing. The integrity and care... More

I visited a Gorilla family called Ntambara. My tour guide, Edward, had just mentioned that the Gorilla family had welcomed "two baby twins" so naturally I was even more excited. I wouldn't be lying if I said I teared up a little on seeing the Gorillas after a 1 hour trek. It was magical seeing those baby gorillas feeding on... More

This is where we did the gorilla trekking. It was amazing! The Rwandans have done an amazing job developing and taking care of this national Park. It has been a lot of work protecting it and improving it. The rangers were incredibly knowledgeable. Also helpful and friendly. We got VERY lucky and only had to hike for about 45 minutes... More

This was set up for me by Gorilla Treks. My son decided to join me at the last minute. Thanks to him we have more videos and photos than I would have taken. We had a couple of great guides, Fidele and Placide who gave a helping hand and good advice. Even taking the odd photo to ensure that I... More

Staff was very helpful to arrange a special tour of the Musanze caves which was the only thing we had time for. Beautiful drive up to the park headquarters.
