Upon arriving at beautiful Lake Chala Safari Camp in mid-November 2015 we found it empty and without water. We left immediately and were promised a full refund of our deposit. However, despite many email requests, we received nothing. Then, nearly 4 months later, we received an apologetic email from new managers who followed up with a full refund of our... More

Lake Chala is great place near Moshi town to spend your day before Trekking Kilimanjaro trip day. This is amazing Lake formed by underground volcanic rivers which meet at lower slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro and form this Lake. Life is at lake because there is Fish Tilapia, Crocodiles, Birds and a lot natural trees. Children and adults both enjoy Marula... More

We stayed at the new tented lodge which is beautiful but is lacking good management. No water (even no bucket of water) not for drinking washing or flushing the toilet, no electricity, no candles, a disco from Kenya having loud music over the lake till sun rise, basic food. All far less than which fits the $ 100 pp they... More

The first view of Lake Chala is wonderful. But unfortunately for us it came after we had already paid the "park entrance" and before we had to pay the "owner of the lake" (!!!). That is the restaurant/guest house which overlooks the lake. It really felt like we were bing ripped off and it sucks when you are on a... More

Lake Chala is recommended for family and friends get together. Its an hour drive from Moshi town and once you've there, you will see a spectacular view of the lake. The hard part is the trekking down the lake. But is worth it.

As with so many things these days in East Africa, Lake Chala is grotesquely overpriced at $25 per person (including day visitors). Pretty yes, but not worth the entrance fee.

The drive there is beautiful, very scenic. You can view the whole lake from the viewpoint. A 20 minutes hike down (sneakers will be just fine) and you are down at the lake shore, where you can rent a kayak and paddle of to the Keynan border.

We love kayaking on Lake Chala. Make sure to ask the guys how much everything costs, because it adds up quickly with all the fees.
