Richard and his wife Caroline run Tanzanian trails. We had much contact via mail and later via whatsapp in the months Before our trip. Richard and Caroline were always very friendly and correct in answering our questions. We did not want to choose one of the larger companies as climbing the Kili is expensive enough. We booked in the period that the Tanzanian government introduced the 18% tax raise, which didn't make things cheaper for us... Still, we thought Richard made us a good offer. We stayed in Haria hotel in Moshi the first few days, which is also run by Caroline. The trip Itself was a great experience! Our guides Jackson and Mudy did a great job and our cook Steve kept us powering up the mountain, backed up by a small army of porters. We both made it to the summit! The tents, sleepingbags and downjackets were all of good quality. To be honest, it was a bit scary to book an Kili climb online in advance, but in this case, things worked out wonderfull. So if you are looking to book at a smaller company, we can recommend Tanzanian Trails for your Kili trek.

Richard and his guides were great to hang with for our 7 day trek. I enjoyed learning there approach for conquering the mountain. They also took on the task to assure our entire group made the summit. Trip of a lifetime with a great feeling of satisfaction making the goal of reaching the summit within 5 minutes of sunrise.

Tanzanian Trails was listed on Henry Stedman's book on Kilimanjaro, and we were looking for a local company to climb with, rather than one in the states. It's website had changed to Tanzanian-trails.com, so took a while to find. Thanks to Carolyn at Haria Hotel, we found the website and Richard Mosha. With Haria hotel being rated well in multiple places, Carolyn's NGO Team Vista being listed in Australia, I felt relatively comfortable sending over our money as a wire transfer. We more than lucked out, they were awesome. Tanzanian Trails set up a great trek up Kilimanjaro, with Amadeus as our head guide, Bakkan, one assistant guide, was a fabulous pacesetter and steady, encouraging. Goodluck, our other assistant guide, was ready with a book and information on the plants, geography, and the rare wildlife we did see. They, and our porters, were great, and in addition, got us going every morning, with coffee in bed, then after breakfast, singing and dancing in circle, a great way to make friends, and get our muscles in gear for the days journey. The guides were not only looking out after us, but watching out for the newer porters and really taking care of the whole team. Our food, was good camp food, with surprise of fresh watermelon and other fruits before the last climb.... nothing fancy, but clean and tasty, everyone did well with the food and water they supplied. Tents were well used but clean and waterproof, we had our own down bags and ski, cold weather gear, but Richard made sure all were equipped prior to our setting out. During the last climb up to the peak, I felt they watched us carefully for problems, encouraged us when one of us felt like quitting, and really made sure we were all safe as first priority, we all made it to the top, but felt that if anyone had any severe altitude problems, they would have made sure that safety was first. It is a budget climb rather than a fancy one, but the important things were all there, topnotch guides, good porters, encouragement and fun, clean and nourishing food, warmth and safety equipment all prepared. We had a blast, thought our guides and porters the most fun on the mountain, and had a safe trip.
