As a traveler, stepping into Qingyan Ancient Town is like walking into a living museum, nestled in the lush hills of Guiyang, Guizhou Province. This 600-year-old town, originating from the Ming Dynasty, is a delightful fusion of history and culture. Each cobblestone underfoot and every ancient building lining the streets tells a story.

The architectural blend here is mesmerizing, with Chinese styles intermingling seamlessly with European influences. Roaming through Qingyan, you'll encounter traditional opera performances echoing in the streets and artisans showcasing their skills in silverware and wood carving.

The local cuisine is a journey in itself. The Qingyan tofu, spicy and flavorful, is an absolute must-try. The town's diverse religious heritage is evident in its temples and churches, each with its own unique history and charm.

Qingyan's peaceful ambiance, away from the hustle and bustle of city life, is its true allure. As a visitor, you'll feel a deep connection to the past while enjoying the comforts of the present. It's a perfect escape for anyone seeking to immerse themselves in China's rich history and cultural diversity. Truly, Qingyan Ancient Town isn't just a destination; it's an experience that stays with you long after you've left its ancient walls.

There are many shops and restaurants in the ancient town. Not very special! Very crowded on the main streets!

So many times I have to go to Guiyang and for me is always an amazing thing. When I don't know what to do or I'm just tired to go far away from Guiyang, the best thing to do is take a taxi (it's not expensive) and go to Qingyan ancient Town. Why? Well the answer is easy. You can go around and lose yourself into the myriad of traditional and modern shops. If you don't want to buy, You can literally try (Chinese people are so kind) the traditional food. You can choose from dumplings, rice, noodles, special biscuits... Or more! If you are brave enough you can try insects! From scorpions to grasshoppers 😊 I tried and I think are good! But I prefer pizza 🤣
After having gorged on food you will surely want to digest! Don't worry! You can walk along the ancient city wall.
In the end... Try to save your money 🤣 there are so many things to buy ahahah you're going to buy everything 🤣enjoy! Let me know ✈️

Qingyan Ancient Town is located 30 km south of the city of Guiyang. Originally it was an earth rammed town. After being repaired and rebuilt for several times, it became an stone town with stone city walls and streets. It is a typical town in Ming and Qing dynasties, a smaller Pingyao ancient city. There are four main streets – North Street, South Street, East Street and West Street crisscrossed by plentiful lanes with buildings ornately and elaborately designed and built.

What makes the town unique is the peaceful coexistence of the three religions – Buddhism, Taoism, Catholicism and Christianity. You see the intricately built temples and churches.

Entrance Fee: 10 Yuan
Through Ticket: 80 Yuan
Note: The town is charged for 10 yuan; if you want to go inside some of the old buildings like the temples, churches and old structures, you need to buy a combo ticket.

How to get there?
1) Public Transport: Take the bus 203 from Guiyang Railway Station and get off at the 27th stop ( the last bus but the third stop ) of Sheng Dang Xiao 省党校, then wait and change for Bus 210 heading to the parking lot close to the West Entrance to Qingyan Ancient Town. After visiting the old town, exit from the west gate and take the same Bus 210 and get off at the 4th stop of Sheng Dang Xiao 省党校, wait and change for Bus 203 back to Guiyang Railway Station. Single way: one and half hour. Be ready for 2 yuan for the bus fare and no change due to the self-service.

2) Taxi: 30 km, 70 yuan single way, 1 hour.

Took a taxi from Guiyang. Not all taxis want to go that far so Bus 210 will get you there a lot cheaper (88 taxi vs 3 each bus). We took bus back! We enjoyed the sights (and sites) but spent much of our time walking up the quaint streets and browsing the little shops (see photo). Was able to bargain and get some touristy items here and there. Wished we had a map or a guide. Sprawling layout was a bit overwhelming. Spent over two hours walking. Easily could have spent twice that. Many hilly paths and steps so be prepared to walk. Glad we went though.

An amazing old town, was originally built more than 600 years ago. Just like the meaning of her name in Chinese “blue rock town”, this town was built almost completely of stone. You can see many old buildings, temples and sites of relics. There are also shops for handicrafts, traditional food and delights. To get from Guiyang to Qingyan is easier by the bus #210 (the initial stop is located at the left of the entrance to the Riverside Park). The journey takes about an hour. I spent 4 hours walking around the beautiful town.
A little bit worried about the methods they use to protect the historic spot. There are many “rebuilt” or “newly-built” historic buildings (e.g., temples, city wall,...) in the town.

It is a lovely town rich in history, culture, and food. There are protestant church, catholic church, Buddhist temple and Daoist temple in the same town. Believe me, there are hundreds of touristic ancient towns in China today but I bet you won't find another small town with rural farms around that would have the coexistence of four religions.

It takes about an hour to get to Qingyan Ancient town from the city and when you arrive you will be afforded the opportunity to eat Pig's Trotters, which are the local delicacy. The town itself is fascinating and rich in history. We enjoyed learning about the No 1 Scholar and seeing where he lived. Also it was interesting to see that there were at least two Churches in existence at one time. The fossils of Keichousaurus and another larger fossil were particularly interesting. The exhibition of weapons and armour was also very informative. As always, there was plenty of opportunity to eat and buy souvenirs. A great day out.

A delightful journey that feel almost like going back in time. As most places in this Province it is very handicapped accessible. There is a lot of walking and stairs at various junctions. Once inside the city there are numerous shops and food vendors. The food sold is mostly pork deep fried. I got a bag of warm freshly fried potato chips (unsalted). The temples are lovely. The shopping quite inexpensive. We ate at a restaurant in the city and the food was delish and ample with numerous options served. This is a definite must return.
