One of the two in the world. this phrase itself put anything top in the queue to visit. And now, even the reach-ability to this place is not a problem, given numerous tour providers available from every other place in Banyuwangi/Karangasem. There are numerous ways of excellsing ijen, though i chose to stay in Karangasem area.

As far as I understood, there is no public transport to reach Ijen at night. I left hostel around 11pm to catch the sunrise. The reason you want to be there at night is to see the blue fire in the crater. I start climbing at around 1.30 am and there is an entrance fee to pay. It takes about... More

The gate is open at 1 AM local time. Better to go early so there's time to see famous blue fire for a while, and you can get the best spot. Moreover, going early allows you to avoid crowd and return earlier to enjoy other interesting features like sunrise and sulphur miners. Some useful tips, assuming you wish to go... More

Actually I come here 3 times but on those time i never reach the top cause I dont strong enough. Last I come, i've already prepared my self and finally I did it! The view was nice and blue fire also quite good (even it's block by sulfur smoke) then we walk again little bit on sunrise spot to see... More

The hike up is relatively easy and the reward is amazing. The crater with the blue fire and sulfur gas cluds gives the feeling of walking into Mordor. Use a gas mask! I highly recommend visiting Ijen crater and to climb at night to see the blue fire. And in the morning the hike down has some lovely views of... More

Need to hike at least 3km to reach the top of the crater. Prepare touchlight, gas mask and good hiking shoes. In order to catch the blue fire, u will need to be there before sunrise. Hike has arranged by tour agency.

I've visited this place with a guide after viaiting Bromo. We stayed in Banyuwangi and stared our hike around 12am. To the parking in Pos Paltuding was about 1h drive uphill. It can bit quite challenging if someone wants to do it by themselves on motorbikes. When arriving to parking, there are some shops to buy food etc. You have... More

I have asthma so was not sure I would make it. However slow and steady and it was so worth it. The sight was unbelievable as the miners carried the sulpher and the lake came into view.Do take a mask as the wind blows the sulphur cloud over sometimes. The are trolleys that can take you down( cost) but I think...
