We walked from a parking area through some woods and along a stream for about 10 mins, and had a simple lunch in a cafe over looking the lake. It wasn’t gourmet, we just had pakoras, chicken and fries, but tasty and inexpensive. I wouldn’t say the lake is worth an extensive detour but it was a good place to kill some time as we had already seen Skardu town. On the way up, you’ll pass Lower Kachura, the heart shaped lake (sort of). It’s more developed, and apparently an aspirational honeymoon destination!Visited January 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 2 January 2024

- Frances BYorkshire, United Kingdom2,715 contributionsAbsolutely beautiful 🤩Upper Kachura Lake really is beautiful. It is easily accessed by car, with plenty of car parking areas available. From the parking area there is a short walk to the lake and this walk takes you past local stall holders selling locally sourced and handmade products. There are also places to stop to enjoy drinks or snacks. The point where you first see you the lake affords you an amazing elevated view. It is breathtakingly beautiful. From this position to get down to the lake level you need to traverse quite a number of steep concrete stairs. If a visitor struggles with mobility then this would present an issue. It is worthy of pointing out that the water level of the lake alters depending on the time of year. In July and August I was informed that much of the mountain snow has melted, meaning that the lake is much fuller with water. I visited in May. The mountains were still snow capped and the water levels lower. Once down at the lake level there are plenty of boats of all different sizes eager to take you on a boat tour of the lake. This is really worth doing and not expensive. I was so fortunate when I visited, it was very quiet and the boat I chose was the only one on the lake. Have such a beautiful place more or less to yourself is such a privilege. It is such a beautiful lake, so serene and picturesque. You cannot visit Skardu without visiting this lakeVisited May 2024Travelled soloWritten 2 July 2024

I visited it in October 2019 during my stay in Shangrila (Lower Kachura Lake). The lake is towards west of Lower Kachura and at an elavated place. It took us almost 15 minute by car to main parking and another 7 minutes to the lake. You will find a peaceful hotel with a western view of the lake and baat riding at the base of lake. Lake presented peaceful ambience during autumn with colorful tree leaved (yellow, Green and Orangish Red) .
We spend two hours there and then went on to see Katapana desert and Katpana Lake.

Lake Kachura, heart-shaped, is a small natural reservoir even if it looks artificial. It's a holiday resort for Pakistanis who flock here in droves. The area is full of small guesthouses and guest houses. The lake is no big deal, a bit ruined by the surrounding over-urbanization, but evidently Pakistanis think differently from me.

Fairyland lake in between the majestical Skardu Valley mountains. It takes around 15 minutes walk from the Parking to Lake and one really enjoys that walk as track passes through beautiful village and Fruit tree jungle. The lake has boating options of different type of charged boats and few restaurants in Surroundings. We enjoyed the memorable boat ride and Fresh appricots from trees .

Its original name is Froq Tso . From Lower Kachura (Shangrila) its a hardly half hour drive . After the drive you have to do a small hike ( about 15 mins depending on your speed ) . which is quite a unique experience on its own . As you pass through a small village you experience the local culture too .
There is a small restaurant just before the final climb down to the lake .
Boat service is available and is highly recommended !

Early morning views of Froq Tso are simply mesmerizing. The local and the actual name of the lake is Froq Tso but due to proximity of Kachura Village, it is commonly called Upper Kachura Lake.
Froq Tso is in a bowl, surrounded from all sides by mountains and orchards which makes the overall view very fascinating. Unfortunately, we saw lot of litter around Froq Tso in 2017 as compared to when we last visited it in 2015. It simply means that more people are visiting this lake now and DO NOT CARE about the cleanliness, scattering litter everywhere. This area has a pristine environment. I request all to take care of the environment in the area and keep it clean.
We have been doing trout fishing in this lake in the past but this time there was no success at all. Not even a single bite. It seems there has been lot of over fishing for trout in Froq Tso.

With all the buzz about Shangrila Resort in Skardu, which is set on the Lower Kachura Lake, this lake is the real deal. It is located next to Shangrila, a little higher in altitude, and not very well known but is much much better than Shargrila/Lower Kachura or Satpara lakes in Skardu. One has to take the track leading up from left of the main entrance of Shangrila resort. Travelling by jeep/4WD for around 15 minutes, you end up at Kachura village where you have to park your vehicle and then take the small track leading down a few stairs to reach this lake. It is magnificent, has breath taking views, especially early morning, the water is crystal clear and cold. There are facilities for rowing and motor boat tours - a full tour of the lake by motor boat costs Rs 1200/-. There aren't much eating facilities present, which is a shame because this can be developed into a world class resort. Nevertheless, people going to Skardu MUST go see this beautiful lake!
