Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This place is basically a Gangnam penthouse during the late Joseon. Check out how the rich live here in this huge, sprawling compound. The complex includes residential quarters, a library as well as a pavilion overlooking a pond.

Gangneung Seongyojang is one of the former upper class residences of noble family of Gangneung city. If you're interesed in Korean history, surely visit here.
And there are many attractions nearby Seongyojang (Gyeongpodae, Gyeongpo beach, Ojukheon, Daegwallyeong Museum and so many others)

Seongyojang is the former upper class residence of the Naebeon Lee (1703-1781) family. Like the nearby Ojukheon House, this residence is also in excellent condition. The grounds are beautiful, particularly in the spring/summer. Amazingly, the property used to be accessible by boat, as Gyeongpo Lake was directly in front of Seongyojang at the time it was built.

Some features of the property that stand out are the brilliantly made chimney's and the exquisite lotus flower pond. Visiting both Ojukheon and Seongyojang makes a pleasant half day itinerary.

This was the home of a great political philosopher and artist in Korea history highly regarded in Korean politics and ideology. Very English friendly and a very interesting tour. I would liken it to their version of Monticello.

Traditional upper class villa. Now a government maintained tourist site but was occupied by member of the original family until recently.

Restoration includes a museum and guest house accomidations with meals. (Best to make a reservation as rooms are limited.)

Excellent photo site includes a lotus pond with overhanging tea/poetry room.

Located close to the lake and ocean beach, this site is perfect for the family on a day trip, or overnight, to Gangneung.

We went to Gangneung (from Yongpyong ski resort) to enjoy Blowfish sashimi and other seafood delights at this popular summer seaside holiday resort, and although it was mid winter with snow on the beach we got a good idea of the long stretches of beach and wide range of summer activities that are available. Its a long way to travel from Sydney Australia but its the second time we have done this to enjoy the excellent Blowfish sashimi, we have survived the experience both times! Back next year.

this historic residence is a beautiful example of korean architecture. a walk around the quaint living quarters nestled into the korean pine forest is a relaxing way to spend an hour or two. the layout gives the visitor a good impression of what it must have been like for visiting artists and writers to have enjoyed a hospitable stay.

Beautiful and well maintained, very little modern updates, gives you a real sense of what the villa was like in 1500's. Shady places, quite and lots of photo opportunites for couples.

Still occupied by members of the original family, this traditional villa is beautiful and in excellent conditions. There are several buildings, a lotus pond and a small museum; everything in a green an well kept area, surrounded by trees and gardens. Very close the lake and the sea. Perfect to visit if you are in Gangneung.
