Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Do not ever rent the Kwid car that looks like suv is a wothless peice of...equipment.
Its so small its also a 3 cylinder vehicle. The bad thing about it is that the charge for rental was as if i was renting an suv. Ridiculously like 55 or 58 dlls per day.

We stopped here on a four week road trip. Loved the "old Mexico " feel about the place. Fantastic plaza. We stayed at the small Casa Grande Hotel overlooking the plaza. A great decision! So happy we stopped here.
Do not miss booking the canyon boat trip. Excellent. 250 pesos. Very good value.
We probably had our worst meal in Mexico in the beautiful area where we bought our boat trip tickets. While the area us so nice overlooking the river the restaurants here are a horrible tourist trap!!
Just grab some street food for lunch.
Early in the morning the plaza is a major jogging/ walking area.

We visited this town during the festival time. Okay, it was difficult to get a parking slot, but this should not stop you. We were so positively surprised by the positive attitude of the inhabitants. This was really great!

I came for the Cañon del sumidero and its alright. There are many shops around the square where you can buy your typical souvenirs. A block from the main square is a street with food vendors, and the food there is the authentic food of Chiapa de corzo.

This quaint and beautiful old city is very near Tuxtla and Canon del Sumidero, actually overlooking the canyon. The pictured main square is absolutely beautiful and meticulously designed. The people are friendly and there's plenty of shopping and food choices for that part of your trip; you won't want to leave.

This was a great gorge boat ride. We saw monkeys, lots of birds and crocodiles but the main thing was the views of the spectacular views in the gorge. Not as good as the 3 gorges dam area in China but very close. it is a must see and do thing when in Mexico

This little town was our first stop in our journey, the fountain is an icon to admire and take lots of pictures of, also the centennial ceiba tree which has stood there since before the mexican revolution...
It's very relaxing to walk along "los arcos" (covered archways stretching all around the main plaza) with its many souvenir shops and mexican candy stores, very typical of the Chiapas culture.
Don't miss the Cañon del Sumidero boat ride that starts there and the Mirador del Campanario. This second one almost nobody knows about, because it's not advertised, so only a few people actually go, it's the bell tower of the main church (can't miss it on your way to the embarcadero) go in and move towards the big main altar, on your left there is a very little stone entrance and a person sitting behind an unassuming desk, pay your $10 pesos per person fee and climb!!
After you catch your breath, the view will take it back from you!! (the only thing not allowed there is to ring the bells which are huge) feel free to roam around.
One last thing, on the back side of the church there's a whole block of food street vendors, their specialty is "hamburgers and hot dogs", not at all what we are used to, these are the biggest burgers you have seen with all the toppings you can imagine! Only $35 pesos!! We ate the regular and it was delicious! DID NOT get sick at all and even came back later for seconds...

I have been In Chiapa de Corzo several times. This is a small old town. You can take a boat here and explore Sumidero Canyon along the river where you will see espectacular landscapes.
In Chiapa de Corzo you also will be able to explore all kinds of handcrafts and delicious traditional food from the region.

Boat ride through the Sumidero Canyon was excellent with crocodiles, monkeys and awesome birdlife inside the 1km high canyon walls.

This was a stop on our way back after the boat trip though the cañion de sumidero. There is markets with local handcrafts and some restaurants by the water but in terms of actual things to do this place offers nothing new. Its a nice break on the way back to san christobal to take a quick picture but it is not a Must See of any kind.
