It is rainy season and they are fully aware that you won’t see a thing! But they still sell the trip! So dishonest 😞.

They sold us a tour that would take us to 4 viewpoints. Rather than this, they only took us to 2 places. Obviously it was raining so no worth the hassle to stop and get wet.

It was a really frustrating experience. The van driver also made the trip much shorter than promised, less than half of the time.

When we mentioned what happened to Mr Israel, the person that sold us the tour, he promised to give us a refund. It never happened so we repeatedly asked to speak with the manager. He was very rude blocking us. Very unprofessional.

Be very careful if you want to visit the viewpoints of El Cañon del Sumidero (Tour de los miradores). Do not give in to the pressure “there will be no spaces left” from this seller. There are many options and better than this company.

Viptravel Chiapas is not professional and take advantage of tourists.

Unique geographic formation in Southern Mexico (Chiapas). Can be enjoyed from below (by boat) and from above (by car). There are day tours for each location, departing from Tuxtla Gutierrez (main city). Both visits are recommended. For the limited budgets (like me) though, those tours are kind of expensive, ranging between $75 and $120, per tour. This is what I did...

For the boat tour, there is a local bus stop in Tuxtla, between the 11th and 13th Streets (SW), right on Avenida Central Oeste. Take there a bus to Chiapa de Corzo. Ask the locals for the right bus number. The cost is: $.025 per ride. Get off at Chiapa de Corzo’s Main Plaza (takes about 20 minutes). On arrival walk towards the docks, looking for the Park’s Service Station, where you can buy a Park Access wristband for $2. Don't pay for a boat ride there (they will sell you out). Instead, look for boat services all the way to your right (facing the river). Look for boats color either blue or red. The more you walk to the right the cheaper. Those boats charge about $5 for a guided 2-hour ride. Super tip: If you are a fisherman (I am), for about $10 (well bargained) a local fisherman (you will see their boats all the way to the left) would take you fishing on the river, for half a day. You should buy the Park Access wristband anyway, if you want to do both things (fishing and touring). Return by bus, same way. Total fee: $11. DO NOT THROW AWAY THE WRISTBAND (you can use it to enter the Park, the next day, for free). If you arrive early in the morning at the docks, you may have time to visit the nearby waterfalls. There are day tours for hire at the Main Plaza, off the docks.

For the Cliffs (next day). Take a public, shared taxi ("pecera"), on Avenida Oriente Norte (between Avenues 2a y 3a (NW)). It will take you, in about 20 minutes, right to the Park entrance (on the mountain side). Ask the locals, or the driver, for the right car number. The Cost is $0.75, per ride. Super tip: At the gate, ask anyone driving into the park for a lift (the Park rangers would not let you just walk in). Get straight to the top (most visitors go there anyway), so you can visit all the trails in your way down (easier). This is a half day visit. There is plenty of wildlife to watch. Total cost $1.50.

The views from below, and the top, are impressive. And the price is right!

We arrived at Chiapa de Corzo on our own. You can do the same, in fact, its cheaper than having a tour company pick you up at your hotel. All you pay is for the guided boat trip that lasts about 3 hours and is worth every peso !!! We both paid 200 pesos per person which is about $11.00 dollars each. Not bad, for a "three hour tour," (sounds like Gilligan's Island !!) Anyway, the company is called "Turistica del Grijalva" and ticket agents at the main plaza will show you where to purchase the tickets and take the bus to the river, (all included in the price, by the way) You have to put on a "may west" and get in a boat with about 25 other tourists. Our boatman, Francisco was great !!! He told jokes and gave interesting narratives about the flora and fauna, legends, and geological formations over a loud speaker. And yes, we did see crocodiles, spider monkeys, ducks, cranes, and hawks circling high above thousand foot cliffs. It's mysterious and stunning. The tour is all in Spanish, but don't let that discourage you. Read up on Sumidero or check it out on the internet before you go and you will still enjoy it. In fact, there was a Dutch family in front of us and they seemed to be enjoying everything just like the rest of us Spanish speakers. One more thing, its best to visit Sumidero from Tuxtla Gutierrez and not San Cristobal de las Casas in which the latter is further away and up in the mountains.

This National Park appears to be little known outside of Chiapas. You have 2 options when visiting the area. You can drive up to the midadores which are 5 high look out points with amazing views of the river or you can take a 2 hour guided boat ride through the Canyon. I recommend doing both. On my last trip we drove up the mountain to the well maintained look out points with amazing views in the morning and then had lunch in Tuxla G. After lunch we boarded the near by tour boats. I enjoyed pulling right up to the resting crocodiles on the bank of the river . The whole slow paced day trip took about 7 hours from San Cristobal . We utilized a guide service . Don't go all the way to San Cristobal and miss this National Park.

This was my first trip to Tuxtla Gutierrez, and at first I thought the boats dock was near this place, wrong.
This place offers you 4 magnificent views of the Canyon, it is a 23km trail you can drive through.
The last stop has a rest area with a small fossil museum and restrooms.
The prices is less than 2USD per person (adults and kid +6) and it is discounted at the boat tour.

We were a group of 5 and everyone agrees this place was their favorite. It was absolutely breathtaking!

My only tip is that if you have to wear a hat, make sure it’s strapped on tight!

When visiting the Canon Del Sumidero - it is in my opinion at least as important to see them from above, as from a boat. And if you have a problem with your back or need more comfort, drop the very touristic boat ride and enjoy the viewpoints instead.

The place is fantastic. To get there I went to Chiapa de Corzo and there my father and me bought tickets to get to the Cañon den sumidero, it was very cheap like $260 MNX it's like 13$ USD the name of the touristic reception it's "Embarcadero Cahuere" the people there it's so friendly and servicial.
The place is very nice I've had a good time I really enjoyed the tour.
Recomendations:
-Take sunscream
-Don't forget your Sun glases
- be carefully with you cam and cellphones
- if you speak English or other language. Read about the place before to take the tour. (The guides don't speak English or other languages. So they explain all the tour in Spanish.)
-please... go to the toilet before. The tour takes like 2.5 hours.

You will have a good time. The view is fantastic.

Visited twice to check out the birds. Be sure to go all the way up the road to the end, where the views are terrific.

We took the boat ride earlier that day and although it's not as dirty as it is down there I still saw a lot of trash everywhere. It's hard to appreciate nature when there's garbage everywhere.
