Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

If you are in the area and have never seen Mayan ruins, or you are really into them, or you want some really great views of the surrounding area and the air pollution isn't too bad, it's worth a visit, but be prepared: this is almost like a carnival site. There are people selling really touristy stuff right inside the park, right next to the historic structures. Children are running around like it's a public park and everyone is taking selfies - no one was getting a guided tour the day we were there. Didn't seem like anyone there cared about the history. I half expected carnival rides. It looks like a LOT of the structures have been taken away, and what's left of the site has been restored in a way that will leave you wondering if it truly looked like this back in the day - though many sources say the site looks so different than other Mayan sites in Guatemala because Zaculeu came under the influence of central Mexico. You can walk up any restored pyramid no restrictions. Beautiful views all around. No idea why Trip Advisor wants me to pick a guided tour - there were none when we were there.

Beautiful place. We had a great walk and then we enjoyed the day in the park.

We visited the museum and had a great day.

We were able to climb the pyramids.

Walked up to the Zaculeu Ruins from Huehuetenango, about a 45-minute hike. Beautiful archeological site and epic views from the top of the pyramids. Quiet. Not too crowded. Definitely recommend just before sunset. Many of the locals speak Mam and Spanish.

I showed up at the entrance of this place at 3PM, 1.5 hours before closing time. Not only did the staff not let me in, they told me that I should have showed up at 8AM and collected a ticket only to be admitted into the premise at the afternoon within a specific time slot. So they basically wanted to make sure I don't see any other place within the area. And their tickets are overpriced, and from what I saw from the outside, the ruins are very unimpressive compared to the other big ones in the country, like Tikal.

Well worth a visit to these ancient Mayan ruins. There's nothing like experiencing history in person. Its inexpensive. You can get a guide if you want .. you'll probably need to know Spanish. Bathroom are rough. The ruins are worthy of your camera.

This could be a nice site, if it were cleaned up, organized and had some information in English language of which there is ZERO! The ruins are not very intricate, no carvings, but yet worth a visit and educational.

This beautiful temple site from the Mayan period is a must see if you love history! There are several pyramids and temples that you can climb and see first hand. Our family greatly enjoyed this trip back in time and connecting with our ancestors. Be ready to walk and wear comfortable shoes if you plan to climb to the top of the pyramids.

If you like ruins and history and taking a trip to the past, this is a great place to enjoy the local folklore. If you are lucky, you may catch a Mayan ceremony and some insight into how the Ancient Maya lived long ago.

This place was very fasinating and enjoyable. It has a museum on site with encased found artifacts. The people were extremely pleasent and the site allows you to climb on the monuments. There is several small shops that sell Mayan jewelry at reasonable prices. It's definitely a peaceful place to visit.

This place is great to visit, it is about 3 hours away from the city and very close to great restaurant in Tecpan. It is not that big like Tikal but very interesting.
