It is in the middle of nothing really. Visited Watukarung on July 2023, and we fly via Jogjakarta and took 3.5hours drive by car, we have someone picked us up at the airport. There are few options of guesthouses to stay, make sure they have hotshower, aircon and comfy bed if you're those kind of people.
Restaurants and cafes are limited, however there is one pizza place that only opens for dinner and if you are okay with simple Indonesian dishes, there are view warungs to go.
Holidays and weekends will be full of locals that spend time at the beach and relaxing.

Watu karung beach is one of the famous beaches in east java pacitan. A beach that presents beautiful natural beauty. Beaches that have greenish blue water and there are corals that line the beach. With a relatively cheap admission price we can enjoy the beauty of the beach, pay only Rp.3000 for children and Rp.5000 for adults. The beach is very good there are no weaknesses just access road to the narrow coast, the road that many sharp turns and many roads are damaged.

A great spot for a short escape. The beach is beautiful, the locals are friendly and the food are great. To be honest, for non surfer like us nothing much to do here, basically we just laze around, went for some hike and beach hopping. There are a few secluded beaches nearby worth exploring, either by foot or by bike. We stayed at Prapto Homestay which is very close to the beach and there's a mini mart nearby too. Everything was reasonably priced. Overall it was a very relaxing trip and we can't wait to go back for a visit again.

This beach offer the best thing for someone who are looking for a tranquility. In some parts of this village, there was no telecommunications signal at all. Although there are several homestays that provide wifi services. But living a few moments without a signal is worth a try. Because we will be reunited with nature. Why this place is no signal, because this region is a blank spot. This beach is supported by toilets and many restaurants.

Watukarung is an awesome beach, the resident is friendly, this beach is very clean, have a good wave for pro surfer and worth it to visit ;)

the last 1hr drive down to this beach off the Yogya road is beautiful as you wind through the kampoengs, warungs and farms on my way to spend a few days with family and friends at a lovely 'resort' on Watu Karung beach. Whilst the resort was immaculate and the ocean views out of this world the walkway behind the beach and up to the view point on the west of the beach were revolting. Rubbish that had clearly been there for months lay in the sun and was stuffed in hedgerows or being burnt in small piles behind the beach...lovely! Such a shame that the President's wish for a revolution in mindfulness and community hasn't made it to this resort which could be such an important an ambassador for the country.

Thia beach is located one hour from Pacitan city. You can reach rhia beach easily. The views of this beach are facinating that you will not be unforgetable. You should visit this beach when you go to Pacitan city.

With Helga & group (Norwegian) of 5 persons, we enjoyed sunbathing & playing water on beautiful beach. We arrived 10.30am. From Yogyakarta, until sunset time 5.45pm., ocean water was very clean, wind blows & sun shine was good. We bought a lot of tropical fruits when we passed traditional market, fruits are mangosteen, guava, watermelon, rambutan, dragon fruit & also younggreen coconut.

Watu Karung beach in Pacitan, East Java can be reached either from Solo or Yogyakarta. We took the road from Solo and return to Yogya. Road is small and in some area is still under construction. It took us 4 hours from Solo, driving slowly.

Watu Karung is derived from Javanese which means a bag of stones. You will see the icon of the beach in the form of a big stone that resembling a girl head with long hair.

The beach is still very clean and not too many people visited. I went there on Friday and Saturday. It is a popular destination for surfers. Locals are very few. It is a heaven for those who like a quiet, tranquility and natural beach. I believe this is how Bali looks like 20 years ago. You can just sunbathing for hours with no one approaching or offering you for massage, hairdos, etc.

As the wave quite strong, only few people swim besides the surfers.

Accommodations is available from basic homestay (IDR 85k) to beautiful resorts (IDR 2,5 million/night for 4 pax with 3 x meals).
Dining is very basic. Most of the time is grilled fish or nasi goreng. Small convenient shop is available too.

Best sunset is on December. Best view if you can get on top of the hill.

I love this beach. Highly recommended !!! Worth a drive.

Traveled all the way from London with two friends to spend a month in Indonesia on a surfing trip. After 3 flights in Yogyakarta we took a 3h car into Watukarung and my god was the voyage worth it. We were only meant to spend one week here before moving on but we ended up staying two and half weeks. The small coastal town is remote and at least an hour on motorbike from the nearest city of Pacitan, to be fair there is not too much to do but that is exactly what we were looking for and it blew our minds how peaceful and nice the locals were as well as the great local food. Amazing surf, great beach, everything was extremely cheap and there are some caves, waterfalls, a river (black sands beach is nearby and the water at the bottom of the river is warm) and other great beaches are in the area. At night the Milky Way is visible with the naked eye and I have spent hours laying in the sand looking at the sky at night. There are many homestays and some resorts, all for different budgets. We stayed at Pasir Putih homestay, simple but great, would highly recommend it, less than a minute from the beach itself. A truly fantastic place that I will return to.
