About

Lovely small museum dedicated to this artist who didn't achieve world wide fame, but is very famous in Holland. The museum has a good collection of Anton's paintings and gives a lt of information about his life and work. Many people are not aware of the fact that Anton Pieck has designed the fairy forest at the Efteling, a theme park in the south of Holland. A visit to this museum will take you 1-2 hours.

Nice to see Anton Pieck's drawings. Our son especially liked the workplace of himself. As a big Efteling / Anton Pieck fan, this was a really nice trip for our son (9 years old).

The second time in Hattem, I got to visit this museum again. The romantic style of his work makes your memory back in time. It begins by the fairy-tale court, the entrance of the museum. At the ground floor and the basement are the work of Anton Pieck himself and at the attic is the work of other painter with a similar style. The museum self is well organized. Once a month there is a "etching" workshop for the school children. You can also enjoy a cup of coffee by the reception. When you finish visiting this museum, you may visiting the Voerman museum too. So, you get two museums for your 7.50 euros.

Anton Pieck was a many-faceted artist. He travelled through Europe and Morocco and drew along the way, capturing castles, landscapes and townspeople in great detail. He painted in small and large format. He illustrated a number of books, especially books for children. He is perhaps best known for his whimsical prints. His printmaking equipment is on display in this small but fascinating museum. His drawings, paintings and prints cover the walls of the two stories and basement of the traditional Dutch home that houses the museum. If you visit Hattem, do not miss this museum!

After visiting the Dutch Bakery Museum we walked to the other side of the village where the Anton Pieck Museum is located. When you are in front of this museum, it's a bit confusing because the Voerman Museum has the same entrance... We asked about this and the crew explained that the Anton Pieck museum is on the backside of the building, you have to walk through the Voerman Museum. The entrance of the Anton Pieck Museum is on a nice romantic small square. After entering the museum you will discover that this museum is way larger than at a first look, it has three levels. It delivers the many elements of the unique style of Anton Pieck. In a movie he explains that he names his style 'romantic', not very popular in the days he started painting. But nowaydays he is famous, I think in almost every Dutch family there is an Anton Pieck painting or birthday calender! The museum is wonderfully and very tastefully designed and has several parts that are focussed on the Anton Pieck his varied romantic style. A jawdropping museum!

The town of Hattem is beautiful in itself, walking the streets feels like you have gone back in time. This museum has a beautiful little entry court, nice well, windmill is visible, and so picturesque! The art inside is great, especially if you have young children, for there are many paintings, etchings and water colours of children's books and themes. Anton Pieck was a prodigious artist, winning his first art prize at the age of six. There are many beautiful travel paintings and drawings too. The museum is small and soy, and a perfect fit for the assembly of art.

The Anton Pieck Museum is a small jewel and absolutely worth a visit in connection with a sightseeing tour through the beautiful preserved old town of Hattem.
In about one and a half hour you can see all the beautiful romantic paintings and drawings of Anton Pieck. Not only about Dutch landscapes and villages but also about Florence, Frankfurt and places in North Africa.
And if you want to experience “life” the romantic fairytale world he created, visit the world famous Dutch themapark The Efteling for which park he designed a number of attractions.

If you don't know who Anton Pieck is, you may not find this museum, or end up here. If you do, then you will enjoy the setup, showing how he worked, with ample displays of his work. The connected buildings and other artists are also interesting. The village of Hattem even looks like the setting of his art, although perhaps more so on a fall day
