This is one of 2 museums dedicated in Albania to icon paintings from Orthodox churches across the country. They have an interesting and mostly very well preserved collection of icons. The first room is covered with icons, most of somewhat lesser artistic value, to emulate...More

If you're interested in icon painting this museum's a must. It's a well-curated and well laid out collection in a modern building. Check out particularly the icon of St Christopher with a dog's head (then look it up on the internet)

One of the most valuable museums in the country. It has a very rich collection of medieval icons especially those of Onufri. They are exposed in a completely new building with a interesting architecture. Definitely a must-visit place.

One of the most important museums in the country. It has a very large collection of Medieval paintings including those of the greatest albanian painter of all time Onufri. The new building makes this art even more accessible and it's an attraction itself.

This is one of the most fabulous museum for display of the art work. Thousands of ikons from the 13th century to the 1800s festoon the walls. The wall color in each room is completely, intense, and stark; all of which enhance viewing the ikons....More

The museum houses a collection of gorgeous medieval artwork from Orthodox churches across the country. When we visited in November, the museum was completely empty of tourists, so we had the entire facility to ourselves. We visited with a guide from Pelion Travel & Tours...More

The collection is quite extensive and interesting to visit. However, for those without a lot of knowledge of icons (like me) some more information would be useful. But it's well worth the visit.
