The incredible natural beauty of the Siq was tarnished by the 'cowboy' attitude of the carriage driver (Horse No:10). Although tickets had been purchased in advance (as recommended), we were intimidated into leaving a larger tip by the driver after a reckless full-speed trip from the Treasury building.

You need to be pretty fit and your knees in great condition if you are to walk the Siq. It is a beautiful sight and in many ways astonishing , the colours magnificent from Gold, ochre to Rose. But the path is hazardous. Cobbles , rocks and rubble thousands of years old are hard to walk on and if you... More

It is an amazing experience to witness the craftsmanship of the inhabitants of this area some two thousand years ago.The walk takes about two hours minimum, round trip . It can be tiresome on the uphill return however camels, donkey and horse driven carts are available ( at a cost ) to assist those in need of transportation.

Walking (or riding) through the Siq is one of the most enjoyable and impressive parts of the Petra experience. Take your time, enjoy the hues and patterns of the rock, marvel at the Nabataean hydrology, savor the moment of the first glimpse of the Treasury.

If walking through with children, you can "spot" animal shapes in the rocks - we found an elephant, fish and turtle.

The gentle downhill slope through the siq shows splendid views of the coloured rocks and has ancient water systems carved into the rocks, some with the original pottery canals still showing. At the end of the siq, the treasury will be reveiled, which is absolutely stunning. Be careful, horses with carriages will be racing (!) back and forth to pick... More

The Siq is just a long walk that leads to the Treasury. However it's definitely a part of the whole "Petra Experience" because you get to see the lengths that the ancient people of Petra went to to protect themselves from invaders. Bring good shoes, lots of water, watch out for horse poop, and don't ride in the carriages unless... More

This is the lost city of Petra. 300BC to realize that this is still intact after all these years is truly amazing.
