Take water as there is very little available en route. Took me around 2 hours to go up from Petra. Lots of places to stop on the way up, but it is steep and does involve a lot of climbing, so be ready. Views are great. Easier way down brings you out nearer the visitor centre.

If I had to climb this to make sacrifices they would have never happen. The views are great but I couldn't imagine dragging the sacrifice to the top.

Hiking in the area around and behind the High Place of sacrifice was the highlight of my three day visit to Petra. For me it was a strenuous hike, but well worth it. I barely saw any other hikers and loved being out of the fray of Petra and all the souvenir sellers. The rocks and the ruins on the... More

Must see, wonderful panoramic views of the colonnade, tombs, caves and facade. Includes ingenious water basins.

This like the Monastery requires a bit of climb and once you reach there you get very good views of Petra. This was the place the Nabateans sacrificed animals to their dieties.

This is not one of the more common places the guides will take you, and does require some athleticism. Its a bit of a hike and up steep stairs, but well worth it. The view once on top is over all of Petra and it truly is one to remember.

A lovely but steep climb. Stairs almost all the way make it a continuous but not necessarily terribly difficult. From the bottom to the top is 20 minutes (various guidebooks say 45 min but that is from the Treasury). At the top there are numerous viewpoints that make it one of the best but least visited places in Petra.

It's quite a climb from down below up to the High Place of Sacrifice, which certain choose to do on a frail donkey's back rather than walk! The poor donkey has one revenge: the climb and particularly the ride down must scare the riders out of their wits! We walked up the stairs of the wild canyon and could enjoy... More

When I climbed up the stairs to the High Place of Sacrifice I was mostly alone; also most of the vendor stalls were deserted. Only at the top I met a bedouin woman and her son that were running their shop there.

Great views but very windy and so we were distracted when we got to the top. Its quite a hike up but we were lucky that it wasn't a busy day and so we took our time and got to the top. We went up by the stairs just past the Street of Facades and came back the same way... More
