Go to the high place of sacrifice and if you are lucky, Ali will be there. A mine of indigenous information, Ali was born in the caves and 39 years on, has brought six children into the world and still lives on the site in a home that has been continuously occupied for over 2000 years. He is genuine and... More

Not too strenuous a walk, but well worth it to see the full extent of the site from above. Interesting to see the sacrificial slab.

The view from the high place of sacrifice is beyond belief. The best time to be there is around 4pm (in the winter) when the sun is about to set and with the best lighting possible - adds contrast to the view.

Nice views of the Petra site if you walk past the Temple and go further towards the Street of Facades. Getting up to the actual temple from the main trail at top, is a bit precarious as the steps here are badly eroded. The climb up from the Street of Facades is moderately difficult. Steps are in pretty good condition.... More

The route to the place is a detour from the main attractions. It leads you through a mountain roas - you have to climb several hundred meters by such road. The hard work is worth it, in tip of the high place there are excellent views from the mountain top

We did this hike starting from the "why not shop" - the stairs to the city center. and the view from the top is very nice, but more importantly, the valley side of the hike (going down) has a lot to offer, that we were not expecting. more monuments and tombs, and completely off the main trail, so very few... Yes, it's a hard way up, but you will love it! If you are on top, the view above Petra is amazing. And you can do a roundwalk and will see a lot of great fassades which are not so popular but still wonderful! Going up and down the stairs is a little bit of an adventure, but everybody with... More

With just moderate effort you can get great views and see additional amazing structures. This hike (done as the loop) takes you to a well preserved altar and place of sacrifice and then be sure not to go back the same way but to go past the tea shop to return by the other trail that takes you by several... Not too hard to get up - less than 30 minutes for me, with lots of shade and many places to stop - but a good sacrificial site at the top and views in all directions. Then you can go down via Wadi Farasa. This path is a bit more difficult, takes 1+ hours if you stop, and it can... More
