This is a pretty steep climb but easy to do. Once you get to the first shop, make a hard right to get to the High Place of Sacrifice, otherwise you will continue on and miss it. It took 1.5hrs from the entrance of the Park. (45 mins, I think, from the bottom of the trail)

If you have the time and the physical condition, it definitely worth it. You'll have a view on the whole site. But the staircases you'll have to climb shouldn't be underestimated if you're not used to hiking in the mountains.

Place of sacrifice are mostly ruins and remains, but there is a beautiful view of the Royal Tombs and rocky mountains. Worth a climb!

For experienced hikers, the hike to the top is a moderate trek and very worth the trip. This trail gives you the opportunity to escape the crowds of the main drag. Highly recommended.

Take water as there is very little available en route. Took me around 2 hours to go up from Petra. Lots of places to stop on the way up, but it is steep and does involve a lot of climbing, so be ready. Views are great. Easier way down brings you out nearer the visitor centre.

If I had to climb this to make sacrifices they would have never happen. The views are great but I couldn't imagine dragging the sacrifice to the top.

Hiking in the area around and behind the High Place of sacrifice was the highlight of my three day visit to Petra. For me it was a strenuous hike, but well worth it. I barely saw any other hikers and loved being out of the fray of Petra and all the souvenir sellers. The rocks and the ruins on the... More

Must see, wonderful panoramic views of the colonnade, tombs, caves and facade. Includes ingenious water basins.
