Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Arrived at 4:25pm to play cave golf. Travelled over 30 minutes from Muizenberg in the traffic and the rain with my little girl to play. We were refused entry as it’s an 18 hole course and we wouldn’t finish playing the course in 30 minutes. I was prepared to play as many holes as time permitted at the full fee - even if it turned out to be the last 5 holes for example. Only my little girl would have played. I hope you retain your tour bus customers as it’s clear you don’t value your local tourists. I would recommend playing at the Muizenberg putt putt rather.

Excellent outing with young kids. Our two granddaughters aged 5 and almost 3 had a wonderful time there. Very reasonably priced as you only pay for the bag/cup that the kids use to collect their treasures in. No charge for accompanying adults.
Wonderful shop full of treasures so be warned! That's were you could end up spending more than expected as there's lots on offer.
We also had tea and ice cream at the little restaurant. When the girls are older we'll definitely play cave golf.

A must visit for a small school group...tasty hotdog and chips prepared for 15 of us in no time at all by only one in the kitchen. Kids loved the really nice putt-putt course and the glowing balls they play with. Not expensive at all. Beautiful polished stones to collect as well. Much to buy from a small budget to really expensive rocks and stuff...something for all.

The two shops - one with polished and carved stones, the other with uncut, natural stones, my preference - have a wide selection of gems and minerals, and the staff in both shops are very friendly, obliging and helpful. Prices are very high though and the whole place is clearly aimed at the tourist trade, which makes it expensive for those of us who earn rands!

Lots of interesting facts about the various precious stones and their origin. Can go into the "patch" and select precious stones, at a price (of course). Gift shop and restaurant on-site. Can also observe "factory" where gems are sorted. Lovely place to spend with the family, young and old. entrance is free, but you must buy "empty packet" that can be filled in the patch section.

Every time we go to Simon’s town, we scratch for a small bag of stones, we love it! We have quite a collection of stones already.

I’ve played cave golf at the Scratch Patch at V&A (which I thought was awesome) and thought the Simon’s Town one would be identical, but it was actually so much better and my 8-year-old son LOVED it!
And of course the shops are amazing with a bonus that you can see where they process the crystals as well.
Will definitely return again

Our first visit to Scratch Patch and it will now definitely not be the last one … both our daughters were so amazed at all the wonderful shapes and colours that they were mesmerised for the entire time they were scratching around.
They over-loaded their cup and bag with stones and then promptly emptied it more than once to start the process over again. Scratch Patch is very popular and we could see that in the short while we were there with constant visitors from young to old. It is rather inexpensive as you can purchase a small plastic bag or a cup ranging in price from R17 to R95 and then what stones you chose to put in your bag or container is entirely up to you. Being able to experience the beauty and huge variety of gemstones is an unforgettable experience and a must visit for anyone.
There are two branches, we went to the main one in Simonstown which opened in 1970 and the other is at the Waterfront. The girl certainly had fun scratching for gemstones from the thousands of tumbled-polished stones that quite literally covered the entire scratch floor. There were a variety of stones including Tiger’s Eye, Rose Quartz, Jasper, Agates, Crystals and Amethyst.
Not only is there the scratch patch, but you can also buy gemstones - they offer a large range of gemstone products, including unusual stone specimens, gem-stone carvings and jewellery - from inexpensive to investment Gems. One can also take a tour of the Topstones factory and see how the stone is processed from rock to finished product.
The facility has a small take-aways with ample seating.

A good spot for a rainy day. Kids can play Cave Golf and then play in Scratch Patch. You pay for whatever size of bag you want and then literally scratch around in a room filled with semi precious stones taking what you want. There is a small shop selling jewellery, as well as loose stones and some set for home jewellery making.

Hi Carol
I don't mind assisting, i know the scratch patch doesn't do it themselves, however I would be glad to help as we do not stay too far from there.
