this is a heritage site and well maintained. It is around 45 kms from bhopal and a must see spot. There are many natural caves over there which were used by early human beings for shelter. They used to draw paintings of animals, humans, etc with natural colours. Some of those paintings are still visible while others have faded away.... More

If you are in to Stone age art this site is a must. These stone age shelters of Bhimbetka (named after the mythological hero Bhima) are the site of the earliest traces of human life on the Indian subcontinent. At least some of the shelters were inhabited by Homo Erectus more than 100,000 years ago and the oldest rock paintings... More

At Bhimbetka do hire a guide and before you go do some self study as well. One has to stop at a rail crossing around 2km away from bhimbetka....it was through the window of one train running on this rail that one gentleman, an archaeologist, saw the magnificent rocks, had a gut feeling, and Bhimbetka was discovered. There are rock... More

The rock shelters if Bhimbetka are a world heritage site near Bhopal. Situated bout 40 kms away from the MP capital, one has to drive past the town of Obaidullaganj on the busy National Highway, to reach this place. The Rock shelters are situated close to the railway lines and within the Ratapani wild life sanctuary. As the story goes,... More

We visited here with private car(3000Rs, include Sanchi) arranged by our Hotel Grand Ashirwad. Departing at 8:30AM, the busy 40km paved road was through a wheat growing plain full of tractors, motorcycles, trucks, and buses. 7km after Obaidullaganj, we turned south on a rural paved lane, crossed double rail tracks, and proceeded uphill for 3km to the gated entrance. At... More
