The Jahangir Mahal has a rich history associated with it. Its design is a brilliant fusion of the prevalent Mughal and Rajput style of architecture. The Mahal reminds us of the fact that Jahangir's mother Jodha Bai, the Queen of Akbar, was of Rajput descent. It is here in the premises of the Jahangir Mahal that the scintillating "Light and Sound Show" of Orchha Fort happens every evening. The Hindi version is at 7.30 pm in winters, the English version of narration is at 6.30 pm.

This palace was built by the then king Vir Singh Deo for Jehangir. An absolutely classic architectural palace with a combination of Hindu Islamic designs and structures. This is 3 storied palace where we cannot enter any of the rooms of ground floor but can visit the rooms of upper floors. The terrace offers a great view of the Orccha town, Chaturbhuj temple and Betwa river. The entrance facing the east is elaborate with the wall designed with turquoise tiles. Two stone elephants greet you at the entrance with a bell, which used to mark the entry of the king in the olden times. From the entrance area we can see the horses stable and Rai Praveen Mahal. A guide is must to visit this palace to understand it. I opted for MP tourism authorised guide.

Jahangir mahal is the 2nd part of Raja Mahal.
The palace’s entry is marked with its Indo-Islamic influence that features large stone elephants that were symbolic for welcoming Indian Royalty. This three storey palace with over 100 rooms bears delicately carved windows and pillars on red and yellow sandstone that gives it a percy-brown color. The hanging balconies and domes overlook the square-shaped courtyard which resides in the inner compound of this palace.

This is one of the palaces inside the Orchha Fort complex which apparently was built purely for the one night that the Mughal Emperor stayed in the Orchha as a guest of Bir Singh Deo, the King of Orchha. Sounds a bit dubious. Regardless, the building is definitely the best thing to see in the fort complex. It’s certainly a pretty building with multi-tiered arcades and colonnades with views into the interiors and courtyards. The walls are topped with elegant Indo-Islamic style circular colonnades of varying sizes.

The best thing to see in the fort complex and in Orchha.

This is a majestic palace, built by veer singh deo.The architecture is indo islamic style, with colourful blue and green glazed tiles. The jharokhas add to the beauty of the palace and offer very good views of the orchha town, also, provide nice backdrop for the photographs.
The main entrance is towards east,as per the Vaastu, with huge artistic door, and statues of elephants. There is a stable for the animals oo. Rai praveen mahal can be seen from here.
There are two storeys, and one should be prepared to climb steep steps.
Better to visit early in the morning or after 4 pm as afternoons can be quite hot.Carry a water bottle.
We hired Mr Hemant singh as a guide, and he explained us the history,as well as clicked nice photos for us.
This palace as well as other monuments in Orchha are underrated. The government should be proactive and must maintain these classic monuments and market them well.

Jahangir Mahal is located in the Orchha Fort Complex and is a must visit place for history buffs as it reflects the rich heritage of Bundela kings. The palace was built in honour of the Mughal King Jahangir and is of Indo-Islamic architecture. One can hire a cab from Jhansi, which has the nearest railway station to reach this place.

Jahangir fort is a very beautiful monument. You need a nice guide to explain the significance of it. Some of the best architectural marvels were executed here like Persian blue tiles. Beautiful gazing jharokhas and protuding balconies, swarming galleries lit by beautifully carved lattices, one can just imagine.
Would love to go back to Orchha.

Ironically, the story goes that the Bundela Rajput ruler of Orchha built this magnificent structure in 1605 as a lodge for Jahangir, son of Akbar, but that he only stayed here for 1 night . . .
The place is grand and in fairly good condition. It is especially worth looking at the earlier main gate, which has intricate decorations and is flanked by balconies and carved elephants. The views from there over the gardens and stables are good.
The palace has some rooms with very nicely painted walls and ceilings ; better viewed with a knowledgeable guide for explanations.

This is one of three palaces in the location of the Fort.
You must have a guide to make the most of this tour otherwise it is easy to move from one palace to another without realising it. This palace is marked by symbolic large stone elephants used for welcoming Indian Royalty.
The decoration of the three storeys is ornate. It is a large palace with over 100 rooms.
