Welcome to 15,000 years ago! In 1950, some Upper Palaeolithic wall sculptures were discovered in Angles-sur-l'Anglin. The stone cavings of bison, horses, ibex, big cats and even human faces revealed a surprising anatomical accuracy and technica...more

The young lady at the entrance took our money and gave us information in passable English. From then on it got worse. It is a ferro-concrete structure apparently on the site of some 15000 years old rock carvings in a cave. Very little information in...More

an interesting visit - the best bit of which was the film with a 3d representation of the images that had been carved into the rock (all in french so fine for us but if you have little french you may struggle) after the film...More

A reconstructed replica of the important prehistoric site (not accessible to the public). Good material, the audio visual interpretation is in French. The facsimiles of the rock carvings have had fallen elements that were found on the cave floor replaced and gives a good impression...More

This is an excellent project giving a replica of the very vulnerable prehistoric site nearby. Obviously you cannot wander around the original site as it would be too vulnerable to damage. The main exhibit is a video son et lumiere presentation showing how people lived...More

For French speakers this is a must see. However, foreigners (and particularly kids) are likely to be disappointed. Firstly, because they are expecting real caves or rock shelters. It's only after you've paid a EUR 5 entry ticket (kids get in at EUR 3) that...More

The area is overlooked by the ruins of an old castle. Unfortunately the Roc was closed. The Roc is supposed to be carvings of goats in the rocks of the cave.

I understand it will be under new management. Excellent media interpretation. If you can take the time to learn and understand then it is fascinating but as with all history of people and goegraphy it is a aerious subject. It is extremely educational.

Before you get to the Roc, one of France's most significant Palaeolithic sites, which carries a strong fascination with its cave shelter, where people of the Magdalenian culture carved, engraved and painted realistic human and animal figures some 15,000 years ago. Its fascinating to watch...More

Disappointed you don't see any real cave paintings. Lots of pictures, tableuxs and a very clever cinema. Right next to a castle in a very picturesque village.
