Palamidi stands silent over Nafplion.Οnce a fortress, sometimes a show of power, sometimes a place of freedom and a newer prison history. Nafplio from 1830 to today has prisons. Search them!

We walked from our hotel up the 999 steps. It was worth it. The view is spectacular. At Step #913 there is a booth that collects 8 Euros for you to visit. We went at 7 a.m. in the morning so as to do this...More

We climbed the stairs up and the view from the top was worth every step although we felt the 8 Euro entrance fee per person a bit steep. We were, however, horrified by the amount of rubbish lying next to the path both up and...More

The 999 steps to the castle are worth it to see an engineer designed fortress, a carefully designed structure with many aspects for the militarily inclined. The panoramic view is a fringe benefit.

Well worth the hike for the amazing view. So cool to step back in history! They should charge at the bottom and sell water!

By all means drive up to the fortress, as there is free parking outside the main entrance. If you like views, and exploring like I do, you will love this place, and continue to ask yourself, how did they build these places?!?! I spent three...More

Arrived around 9am after climbing the steps, which are shaded in the morning .Amazing views as you ascend and extraordinary views in all directions once at the top. The craftsmanship of the fortress is startling and the descent to the prison cell was confronting. A...More

You can drive to the top where the castle itself is. Driving from center of Nafplion is about 10min. There are parking places but can get very crowded during popular days - times (i.e. Saturday - Sunday morning). From the... More
