- Marie5466Guanajuato Municipality, Mexico1,151 contributionsHow much longer will it stay pristine or open with so many people not following simple rulesI walked from Kobarid to the waterfall. It’s only 2.5-3km or less than an hour walk if you don’t get turned around. So many of the signs leading you to the fall are broken or missing (especially at the end of the summer, I’m told by locals) that it’s hard to tell which way to go so I ended up following my GPS map and made it there ok eventually. At the beginning of September the waterfall was quite small, not that impressive, but the description mentions that as a possibility late in the season (even if they had a very rainy summer this year) so I wasn’t disappointed. Five Euro fee to be paid just before you finally reach the waterfall. The waterfall is only 15 meter (45-48 feet) tall but has carved a very large, rounded hall, typical of karst caves. They ask that you don’t go in the water and despite all of that people do it anyway. When you hear a loud whistle, it’s the guard warning people to get out of the water. It’s so sad that people feel entitled not to follow simple requests made to keep the water as clean and pristine as possible for all to enjoy. People put dogs in there too, also against the posted rules. The hike is a little steep in places for some folks. There is a suspended bridge you can croos, on your way there and you can also see parts of the old wartime Italian Line of Defense. The 52 meter suspended bridge is located on the very spot where a wooden footbridge had been during WWI. During WWI, the Italian army built three defense lines in the Soča Region. On the banks of the Soča River, you see part of the third line of defense. Overall, beautiful hike in a forested area along a light blueish-green river, what’s not to like.Visited September 2023Travelled soloWritten 19 October 2023
- mkanokLos Angeles, California34 contributionsStunning scenery and waterfalls after a pretty easy hike… Def one of the highlights of Soca River! Just Go already!I was very fortunate that the weather cleared up from gloomy and misty to bright and sunny…. I parked at the free lot near Camp Lazar, crossed Soca River via the suspension bridge “Brv čez Sočo”, and hiked about 10 min to the first and lower waterfall. You can see it from the bridge but for a better view, you can carefully climb down the left side before the bridge and see thru the bridge to maybe the best view of the lower fall. (I first went across the bridge and to the left. Also a decent view, but the loose rocks seem like an ankle injury waiting to happen…). So net-net, before the bridge and to the left for the best photo spot… just be careful because it’s slippery… Then, I hike about another 10 min past the Lower falls to the Upper falls. Very serene and stunning path… was fortunate that it was off season because I had the entire path to myself until I bumped into a local and his dog on a hike. Upper falls requires a few stair case and bridge crossing, which thankfully have been thoughtfully added and reasonably well maintained. Upper falls did not disappoint - huge drop, private chamber and loud roaring emerald green water… Just do the hike! It’s worth it and you’ll have amazing photos…Visited February 2024Travelled soloWritten 19 February 2024

The road to the waterfall is spectacular, especially the views of the Soca River. What I find outrageous is that you are charged €5 to access the last section of the road that reaches the waterfall. There is no indication along the way that it is paid, and when you get almost to the end you are informed (in very bad ways in our case) that you have to pay. It is also forbidden to bathe, so you pay 5€ to get there, take the picture and turn around, since with the number of people there you can not stop. I'm still wondering what they give in exchange for the €5. Anyway, it is best to enjoy the path and take a dip in the river Soca, which at the moment is not privatized...

Nicely arranged parking space. You pay the parking fee in advance at the € 2 vending machine. There is a beautiful path to the waterfall. At the waterfall it is a little narrow but very nice. Along the way there is also a suspension bridge from where there is a beautiful view of the emerald Soča.

Beautiful gorges and waterfall to visit! You do not need to long, 45 minutes to take your time. It costs 5€ per adult. Best to try to visit them when it is not too busy. We included this visit in a long walk around the Kobarid area, the whole area is very pretty. Enjoy!

Visited here as a popular destination in Slovenia. Can get busy with tourists. I think the charge is quite cheeky. €12 for a family. We preferred the beautiful views of Soca River than the waterfall. Save your money and stay on the river.

It's beautiful.
We chose to go at the end of the day and we had the stunt to ourselves. Only drawback: the light for the photos was not optimal.
Along the way, do not miss the small waterfall: just before the small wooden bridge, on the left, a path allows you to access the waterfall, or even swim in it.

My wife and I really liked this waterfall and the related hike. The falls are very distinctive and the hike was very scenic. We were really glad we saw it. We were also able to go off the path a short way and see some WWI trenches. It took us a little over an hour round-trip from the parking lot.
Note that Google Maps seems to have the wrong location for the parking lot. Also there are two parking lots - neither of which appear to accept credit cards.

I'd first go back here because of the path between the car park and the waterfall because all the way here you go along Soča River that has magical turquoise water. I've never seen such a bright colour of water before. And it's surrounded by the beautiful Alps. Then there is a nice little path to the Kozjak Waterfall. The waterfall is beautiful, but you have to have a good camera because it's pretty dark in there. There were almost no people since it was around 6 pm.

This phenomenal fall is in Kobarid region. It’s the highest waterfall on the brook and the only one which is accessible for tourist as the other 5 falls doesn’t have a set path. One must appreciate the efforts of the people who did a great job in constructing passage which made it easy walk for even elderly people to have the fantastic view of the fall and the pool down the fall with blue green water. The water is freezing cold if you think of swimming.
The walk way closer to the fall is beautifully made with rod support at the side for the visitors to balance. One the way to the falls you see bunkers used during the World War. It’s quite a good walk up to the falls so recommended to wear comfortable shoes.
It’s worth a visit.

Hello. Is it open in November? How much enter? And, what about Soca Valley? Can we start from Soca Valley and go to Kozjak Waterfalls?
Written 27 October 2022

Hello, I am a tourleader from Belgium and I wonder if it is to do with groups of 30- 40 people? Is it accessable from older people who cannot walk that good anymore? How close can you come by bus? Is it to pay or for free? Do you need special walking shoes?
At last, can you combine it with a visit to the museum and is it to do from Kranjska Gora in 1 day? Are there maybe other attractions worth seeing for us?
Thank you in advance

definetely it is not an easy to access spot!
you have about 45 min walk from the nearest road
i would say 20 people is the max for groups
1 day from K Gora to kobarid is doable including museum and lunch

Where do I park and how much does the parking cost?
How much do I pay to visit the place?
How much time do I need to visit?
Thank you!
Written 10 August 2017
Hey,
In Kobarid you can park your car in the village or at the supermarkt for free. The walk is for free. We did the whole walk and it took us about 2 hours with little children (5 and 7 years). A must do if you are in the neighbourhood!

Written 27 May 2017
Non entravo in Tripadvisor da un sacco di tempo ed ho letto solo ora....
Il parcheggio è gratuito, come pure la cascata.
Non serve la vignetta, la località si raggiunge con la statale.

Do you have to pay anything or can you just walk freely and swim at will?
Written 14 April 2017
There's a gatehouse at the entrance to the park that asks for a small fee. Be sure to bring a towel - the water's cold!
Written 14 April 2017
Please let me know just how difficult the hike is to the waterfall. While I would love to view, I also have a limited time of 3-4 hrs. Thank you.

Hi,
4 hours for this lovely attraction is enough.
