Just come away from this boat trip, and a combination of poor weather (the forecast we were relying on was badly wrong), covid restrictions, and unhelpful crew made this the worst boat experience ever! We cannot understand why we were not allowed to go below deck, as 3 days ago we did the equivalent Windermere Cruise, and everyone could choose open air or enclosed. On this boat trip however there was no choice - we were allocated seats on the very open and exposed upper deck, where we were lashed by driving rain the whole journey from Glenridding to Pooley Bridge and back. No staff member made any attempt to dry our seat before we sat on it. We had to do the best we could with some of our own tissue paper. The staff seemed more concerned with whether we were wearing our face masks all the time (why this was necessary (?) when we were in the open air and socially distanced anyway - probably no more than 18 people maximum on our trip). The crew were oblivious to the fact that most people were slowly succumbing to hyperthermia, as they were cosy enough in their cabin, or below deck! This was more an endurance test than a pleasure trip and as such never to be repeated. We are only just starting to warm up now!

Thank you for your disappointing review and I am sorry that the weather was not as you expected. However, I am even more disappointed by your attitude to our staff, who have my full support and who are just doing their job, and to the regulations which we have been forced to observe throughout this Covid pandemic. We make the terms and conditions of travel very clear on our website and in a follow up email which comes with your tickets. If you are not prepared to mask up, sit outside, remain seated for the duration of your journey and comply with the other simple rules set out there, then please do not purchase tickets until after the restrictions have been eased. These are not my rules, these are the rules with which we have to comply in order to remain open.

We took the boat from Glenridding to Pooley Bridge and walked back via the Ullswater Way, which was lovely. Personally found it a bit overkill having to wear a mask on a boat that is open on all 4 sides while you are already socially distanced with the wind blowing, not sure what the scientific evidence is for that! Nonetheless an enjoyable trip and we felt £6 for all day parking wasn't too bad.

After a cracking day walking in the sun in the hills we stopped off at Pooley Bridge pier to enjoy the best view in the world while enjoying a wonderful cup of coffee and an ice cream while watching the steamers coming and going. They are open now. Fabulous friendly and caring service by the staff who took time when they could to inform us of the booking situation and how best to book a trip. Looking forward to visiting again.

Took the steamer from Glenridding to Pooley Bridge and walked back along the Ullswater Way. It was windy so sitting outside due to the Covid restrictions was a wee bit chilly as the wind picked up, but it was a great trip and the staff were friendly. They have one way systems in place and we felt very safe in terms of C19. The walk back is 11 miles and gives amazing views of Ullswater. Highly recommend.
