Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We went to the Monteviot Lights Trail - a festive light and sound show which was really imaginative and beautifully executed. Cleverly placed lights and atmospheric sounds transform the gardens and woodlands around Monteviot into a wonderland. Perfect as a romantic winter activity, with great hot drinks and snacks available at the start and mid-point of the trail. We were lucky enough to go on a snowy evening, and it completely exceeded all our expectations. I hope they do it every year!

Went for the lights show and it was absolutely incredible. The best I have seen anywhere in the world. The music and the lights made it a truly magical experience; hidden fairy doors and fairy houses were phenomenal for the imagination of adults and children alike. An absolute MUST do. Pictures don’t do it justice. What an experience for the senses.

Wonderful gardens to visit, such a range of environments carefully created from formal gardens to the amazing water garden. Should be so much better known. Entry was £6 a head.

Absolutely first class gardens. Well worth a visit.. the range of plants trees shrubs cannot be overlooked. Views across the gardens are a pleasure to behold. We were totally impressed. Quite a few steps to negotiate for any with walking difficulties. Covid isolation and old age having taken its toll. Cost extremely reasonable toilets lovely and clean. Hot drinks with an honesty box.

The gardens are immaculately maintained...and the house is too.
So many of Country Houses are rather threadbare but Monteviot is categorically not in that category.Very much a family home it is a privilege to be able to view such a jewel..there is wondrous architecture, magnificent paintings and a delightful setting. Our guide,Ann,was-she told us-relatively new to the role but she had learnt a lot in a short time.Seeing the cosy (but large) family home of the Kerr family was a great experience and ought to be on the list of anyone interested in seeing these very special houses.

Lovely quiet gardens with some amazing planting. Great views over the surrounding countryside. Very peaceful with plenty of seating as you wander around.
Some of the signage was a bit confusing. There was a mix of numbered & unnumbered arrows but it would be difficult to get lost. The water garden was a disappointment as the paths were badly overgrown, definitely in need of TLC.

We visited the gardens while holidaying in Jedburgh. The gardens are beautiful with a wide variety of plants. The signage was confusing in some places. We felt the water garden needed some urgent maintenance, the plants near and over the bridges were very overgrown making it unpleasant wading through them. We both got nettled
walking in this area.

Visited with elderly mum . Not well signposted so a little difficult to find using an old fashioned map . Having visited many hundreds of gardens in the UK over the years this has to easily be in the top 20 . Beautiful planting throughout , the river garden is particularly stunning . A little hilly in places , but loads of seating throughout the garden with some stunning views . Amazing to think that only 3 gardeners look after these lovely grounds .This garden deserves to be so much better known . If the entrance fee had been three times the price of what it is ( £ 6.00 ) I would still think that is was well worth the entrance fee .

These are surely one of the best gardens to visit anywhere. Full of interesting sections that add up to a great garden visit. We live 60 miles away and are amazed that they are so quiet on the times we have visited.
