Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Entrance next to disabled parking bays was locked. When we asked if the doors could be opened to allow access for disabled relative they refused as it would set off the alarm. Really disappointing.

Parked at centre for walk up to Waterloo Monument, lovely walk and great views from monument. On way back to car park planned to stop off at Mary’s Diary for an ice cream unfortunately, much to our disappointment found it to be closed on Thursday’s so went to Out There Artisan. Out There Artisan was an even bigger disappointment, their idea of an ice cream was an ice cream sandwich, do sell sundaes but none available the day we visited, we thought we would try in any case but wish we had not, it was two chocolate brownies with ice cream in the middle and was not nice at all, the lollies looked nothing like the picture, very small and looked to be from a cheap multipack despite costing £1.50, their cola was some cheap tasteless brand, furthermore we all ended up wet from the cushioned seats in the courtyard that were wet despite been in the sun plus the staff’s attitude was most surly, especially the girl on the checkout. Lovely place to visit but take your own food and drinks.

This is a beatiful location in Teviotdale and a great base for walking.

However avoid Out There Artisan. Staff very unfriendly and unwelcoming. Ice cream poor and overpriced.

Lovely place for day out but take a picnic if you're with children. Whilst the restaurant does tasty food for adults the menu doesn't really cater for a child's palate.

Absolutely great place to take kids to let off some steam! Huge open air play park with plenty for the kids to do. We spent hours here on 2 visits over 2 days.
Although the visitors centre appears to be closed there is still access to toilets and the cafe appears to be open as normal. We didn’t use the cafe as we read that it was all closed so came prepared but will definitely try it next time we visit.

We hoped to end our day walking St Cuthbert's Way with a trip to the centre but it's not at all easy to understand if it is open and what facilties it offers. The website was non-existent and the contact details didn't respond. All in all a bit rubbish

Café isn’t shut and offered excellent lunch. Good play area and interesting craft shops. Waffles were really appreciated . When they say they’re ideal for sharing they mean it - they’re big

Came out of interest as had walked the Presidents Route a few days earlier. Underwhelmed. Only person in cafe but still waiting over five minutes before someone came to take order. The only baking available at 3pm was choice of 3 types of brownie. Coffee hot but weak! Would have spent more time on woodland walks had there been maps and information. I couldn’t see any. They do have a splendid play park and ample parking with a lot of outdoor seating. The place both indoors and out was clean and well presented

Well this new cafe was a really pleasant surprise. So different from before. Limited menu but adequate. Worth a visit. Nice staff. Good decor and good choice of subdued muzak.
Winter waffle was MASSIVE! Nice coffee. Support this new venture. Reasonable prices. Lovely outdoor sitting and play area. Just across from super children's play area. Good destination. Go for it!

Having in past visited Harestanes thought I would return with my family. Time waits for no man and I was disgusted that on arrival didn’t have a clue about cafe and visitors centre that I remembered. I don’t have children so play area was no go. Altogether waste of fuel and time. Far better by far proceeding to Monteviot gardens well worth a visit.
