The idyllic village of Plockton and its sheltered waters provide one of the best locations in Scotland for learning and improving your kayak skills, under the guidance of Alison French, a fully qualified sea kayak instructor.Sea kayaking out of Plockton enables you to experience breathtaking panoramic views of the Isle of Skye, Applecross and Torridon mountains and reach coral beaches only accessible by boat. Wildlife is abundant and journeying by kayak will give you the special opportunity to explore the fascinating coastline and get close up to otters, seals and even porpoise. We also explore the Isle of Skye’s remote and inaccessible coastline, with its Cuillin mountains providing a spectacular backdrop. Here we may see basking shark and Minke whales. The sea around the Isle of Skye presents the kayaker with an array of conditions to hone skills and play in. The Atlantic tides squeeze through the narrows of Kylerhea and Kyle of Lochalsh presenting the more experienced paddler with rougher water to practice techniques. You will be equipped with top quality sea kayaks, paddles, clothing and safety gear, and will receive expert tuition in a guaranteed small group environment. Coaching is highly personalised and professional, with your safety and comfort paramount. Your day will be tailored to your needs so that your sea kayak experience is an exceptional one.

Three of us went out for a first experience of sea kayaking. Alison met us at our accommodation, gave us a quick brief on the equipment, we got changed then walked 100 metres to our launch site. Even with Covid-19 we felt fully re-assured that Alison was taking safety seriously.
As novices Alison gave us a full safety brief, explained how to use everything on dry land before launching.
We felt really safe as we learned lots of techniques slowly and Alison made sure we all understood. The pace was perfect and we all had a great time exploring the loch and learning about tides, how to use the flow. We had a quick stop for the famous flapjacks and later a stop at a lovely lunch spot to relax and take in the scenery.
We enjoyed it so much we are gong back for more, Alison is a great teacher and guide and we highly recommend her.

I can highly recommend a sea kayaking trip with Alison who was a fantastic teacher. My family and I (including teenagers) spent the day paddling around the shore line and circling small islands where we spotted two otters, rare sea birds and some friendly seals. We were treated to homemade flapjack and ate our packed lunch on a beach on an island which we had all to ourselves. The weather was a little windy and wet but that did not dampen our spirits and the paddling kept us warm. The waterproof kit was high quality and kept us dry. Alison was very organised, had good local knowledge and was great company. It was so lovely to be on the water and looking back at the shore to get a different perspective on our family holiday. It was a very memorable and inspiring day.

Our family of 5 (a mix of young and not-so-young adults) had a lovely kayaking experience with Alison. We felt very safe (both in terms of handling of Covid-19 and the actual kayaking) and also learned new skills even though we had kayaked before. The route was lovely and varied, from the tranquil loch just outside our accommodation, to a flapjack snack at the foot of Eilean Donan, across the windy junction of 3 sea lochs to a wee bay for our lunchtime stop with an audience of seals, then back home with the benefit of wind and tide behind us.
Alison was friendly and highly professional and we would not hesitate to recommend her and her company.

The great thing about sea kayaking is that it doesn't matter if it rains - which has to make it the ideal pursuit for Scotland. Juliet was experienced and empathetic guide which, allied to the best kit I've ever hired in any kayaking rental anywhere, made our trip hard to beat. My god, we even got perfect weather, perfect wind direction, perfect tide timings. And a slice of free flapjack to boot.

We had a fantastic time doing the family sea kayaking day. Alison was so attentive and she makes the most amazing flapjacks which we had for elevenses.... but the recipe is a secret!!
The scenery was amazing, we saw seals out on an island and had lunch on a little beach overlooking Loch Carron. Perfect.

Alison took two of my kids, myself and two other guests out for the day, sea kayaking from Plockton harbour. Alison was a great instructor and guide. The scenery was stunning: amazing mountains, paddling around the islands in the loch, crystal clear water and cool views of Skye. We saw loads of seals and an otter. Although I was aching by the end of the day the whole experience was very relaxing, gently paddling through a beautiful natural environment.

We had a brilliant day out kayaking with Alison. We did the beginner day course which I highly recommend as she is a fantastic instructor who really makes sure you learn the proper postures/techniques for paddling, turning, stopping etc. She demonstrates the techniques and spends lots of time making sure everyone gets it right so you are genuinely learning. She's very patient and relaxed so it's a lovely atmosphere and the area itself is beautiful. If you're lucky you might see some seals as well.

We (family of four - two teenage boys) did a Learn to Sea Kayak day with Alison, and four others. As a credit to Alison there were at least two very apprehensive people on the trip and both finished the day with massive smiles on their faces. The weather was a bit ropey but it really didn't matter. Alison took care to make sure people were warm, dry and comfortable, and safety was paramount. Highly recommended - if you're a little nervous, don't be put off - you're in safe hands and its a great way to see a very beautiful part of the world.

I went out on consecutive days (beginner and improver). I'm so glad I did this as I could build on day one's intro. Alison is an excellent instructor, building confidence by teaching proper technique without making it feel like a lesson. Beautiful environment around Plockton with far-reaching and always-changing views. Weather was mixed but that was fine because every 10 minutes it was sunny again so don't let that put you off. Saw lots of wildlife including seals. Covered over 10km both days, so there's plenty of paddling time. Brilliant.

Great day learning to sea kayak. Alison was really attentive and responsive to the out groups needs. Lots of local knowledge and a very positive training style. All the wetsuits and equipment was really good quality and very clean too. Fantastic views and crystal clear waters. Had a great experience with some seals swimming alongside us too.

Hi there. Are you open in Oct? We’re staying in the area for the Oct school week. What is the minimum age to do sea kayaking?
Thanks
