A very scenic and at the same time simple hike through rock formations in the highlands around Cajamarca. Also a ancient water channel passes by and gives the visitor a historic dimension of the place. The hike takes up to 2 hours if you want...More

About 40 minutes by cab from downtown for a nice very short hike though towering rocks and along tiny canal. High altitude and steep trail at small sections. An excellent afternoon diversion. Very pretty.

The Cumbemayo is a carved stone complex about 45 minutes north of Cajamarca. There's no crazy ruins there but impressive rock formations and water works carved in stone. There's also a few spot with carvings in stone walls. Anyway, the most interesting part is the...More

I liked the hour-long walk among the beautiful geological formations, by the incredible 3000-year old pre-inca canal. It was definitely worth the trip. I went with Destino, an agency on Cajamarca's Plaza de Armas. Our guide was wonderful. He was so enthusiastic; you'd have thought...More

Agreed, strap the kid on your back and hike it! Lots of up and down in the walking tour, NO pavement or ramps. If your child is walking and climbing, they can walk this, if not yet, they'll enjoy the view from your back :)
