Enjoyed with the grandkids
Jun 2021
Lots of outdoor and hands-on building and exploring opportunities for youngsters. Visits are timed which makes for ease of entry and exit.

Fun for the kids
Nov 2020
This unique park is one of the best kid friendly spots in the East Bay. If you are traveling with kids and want to do something for cheap that they will enjoy a lot, this is the place to go!

MUST DO if you have kids who like to play and run around
Aug 2019
First things first: You have to sign a waiver upon entry that you will not hold Adventure Playground liable if your kid gets hurt. There's a REASON for that waiver. This is not your local suburban park playground with a rubber floor and lawsuit-proof play structures. There are random nails... everywhere. There are random pieces of wood... everywhere. There are hacksaws and hammers... everywhere. Many of the play structures are being built BY those kids with the hacksaws and hammers (with all the structural engineering integrity you would expect of a structure built by 7-yr-olds). And there are kids RUNNING around holding hacksaws and hammers and nails and random pieces of wood up and down those rickety-ready-to-collapse-at-any-moment-structures... everywhere.

Expect your kid to fall. Expect your kid to get scratched. Expect your kid to walk out with dirt and sand in their underwear and ears and in their mouth. And then be happy if one or more of those things DON'T happen. But don't say "Nobody warned me this could be dangerous".

Oh, and expect your kids to have a GREAT TIME. Mine certainly did. They had to kick us out at closing time. We could have stayed there for two more hours.

Oh, and for the non-local travelers who worry about such things (like me): there was plenty of free parking on a warm August Sunday afternoon at the Berkeley Marina next door.

Adventure Playground Birthday!
Aug 2019 • Friends
I booked a two hour block at Adventure Playground for my son’s 10th bday. There were 10 kids (mainly boys) between the ages of 6 and 13. They ALL had a blast. They explored, created, collaborated, played on the zip line and cleaned after they were done.
The staff was helpful when I called to book, responsible and gave a fantastic safety/rules talk before we went in and friendly on site during the visit.
The view/setting is beautiful too.
I would definitely recommend this!
No food allowed inside but there’s a park right next door and you can picnic.
Thank you for a great experience. I had one thrilled 10 year old.

Helicopter Moms stay home

We did not have kids here, but we watched all of the kids skip the "regular" playground for this. Well staffed and definitely creative. My children are grown, but I would have a been a "nervous Nelly".

just the playground I have been looking for
Sep 2018 • Family
Even though its designed for 6+ year old children, our 4 year old was able to enjoy majority of this playground. He was thrilled to explore this unique layout of playing, where he could play on a structure in several creative manners. Hang, swing or walk.
We intend to come here often, for longer duration, to enjoy the beautiful views.
After 5 pm, closing time, we went to the play structure next door to enjoy till dark.
The restrooms are nearby and close at 5 pm. There are several picnic benches outside, paved foot path to stroll along the waters while enjoying a crispy morning or a magical sunset.

Free range kids reign supreme!

If you are a helicopter parent, this is not the place for you! Lots of things to play with and space to run around. Play in the dirt, play with tools, zip line, climb, get dirty....awesome good fun! Set near the Marina so you get some breezes off the Bay.

Zip line and places to create
Jun 2018 • Family
This is a large adventure ground with lots of opportunity to build on existing structures, ride a tire swing, or have the kids go down the zip line. There are plenty of opportunities for scrapes, falls, or injuries. We have seen many a child fall off the swing or run right into another both toppling to the ground. It can get really busy on the weekends with lots of kids running around. You can sign out tools at the front desk and find a corner to start building, It's a great time, but it is also a free play environment so it carries everything that goes with that dynamic.

Kids Dream Come True
Aug 2018 • Family
They had us at hammers, nails, saws, and paint. We are visiting from out of town and found this searching for “kid activities” in Berkeley. Great place for kids ~5yrs+. Free if you stay with them, $10/ea if you leave them. My kids were in heaven sawing and hammering everything they could dream up. Painted random objects and made some “art.” Kids are allowed to attach and alter any play structures and there are few other rules (except to wear shoes). Not a comfortable place for helicopter parents, but I enjoyed watching them create and take risks. More cities should have this type of play opportunity.

Ok playground, but unfriendly staff
Jul 2018 • Family
So... it was just okay. My kids were entertained for about an hour or so (and they are two super active boys), but it really is not a great spot for a three year old and they are ALL about rules here. I like that they park itself not as structured as most playgrounds and there's dirt and sand, but I wouldn't say that the structures seem particularly safe. Mostly, though, I wish the staff had been in any way friendly. The three we had interactions with seemed like the hated their jobs and/or kids. One of the staff saw me looking for my toddler and calling his name. She found him behind the staff counter and didn't even bother to tell me. I don't know what she said to him but he was crying by the time I got to him. Another was super unfriendly to my older kid who will turn six next month. He wanted to go on the zip line and she very abruptly told him to come back in a month because it wasn't "fair to the other kids." I sort of get it, but she was just so unfriendly about the whole thing. Seemed odd for someone working in a playground. We also had lunch in the park next door and walked through the playground on our way out and got shouted at because my toddler was carrying a small can of chips. We were literally at the gate and clearly just walking through. I know you have to have some rules, but there are ways to have rules without making people feel completely unwelcome. Was kind of a bummer, since I had heard it was all about free play and letting kids be kids. Also, the parking lot is really weird and has all these no parking signs, but everyone is parking there anyway. I didn't get a ticket, but I honestly spent about 10 minutes trying to figure out what was acceptable parking and what wasn't. If you live in the area, it's probably worth the trip, but I don't think we'd make the trip from the city again.
