Train Ride

Great family outing and plenty of open space for the kids to plan and have a family BBQ or picnic. Great walks around the river also.

The creative and colourful trains and track side buildings are lovingly cared for by volunteers and are a delight to see and ride in. The tracks wind through the Canning Regional Park and the trains take one along the river and through through the swamp lands and bush. Departures are either from Castledare Station or Wilson Station. Make sure you... More

Wonderful mini train railway that goes through the park - for A$6 per adult, it's an amazing treat for 15 minutes. You see the park through the swamps, the woods at a wonderfully slow pace.

This place is run by volunteer train lovers and runs on the first Sunday of every month and on Public holidays. I took my children here 25 years ago to have a train ride around the Canning Regional Park, and I take my Grandchildren to do the same. It is a brilliant venture, and everyone from the volunteer operators to... More

So many of our children are fascinated by trains and even more so by steam trains. Heading out to Castledare for an afternoon picnic and a few train rides is an awesome way to spend your day letting the kids get a feel for those engines of yesteryear huffing and puffing their way around the parks tracks. Ok now as... More

What a lovely find, the entire set up was basic and easy to navigate. Parking was at the end of the church car park on dirt, and easy to access from Leach Hwy. The volunteers were all friendly and enthusiastic - telling dad jokes while we waited for a train to pull in. there were steam and diesel engines at... More

Castledare has always been a quintessential part of childhood in Perth. Miniature train rides on the first Sunday of every month is a memory which fills me such a longing to go back my age of innocence. It's a beautiful little journey around the Canning River and if you're looking for something both adults and children can experience together then... More

A great day out with the kids. A great experience for steam enthusiasts as well, we'll set out and a great opportunity to get out and enjoy the open air, Canning River Regional Park and the old Castledare site. Highly recommended

Castledare MRR, runs miniature steam and diesel engines with strings of passenger carriages and goods wagons. Passengers straddle a seat running down the length of each coach. Kids (particularly the big kids commonly referred to as ‘Dad’) love it and actually insist that they are the ones that should escort their children on the train ride. The main station ,... More

I came to Australia a couple of years ago, and have been visiting Castledare during this time. I am amazed at how many of my friends have not heard of this place! Children young and old can enjoy a day out, making sure you wear filled in shoes for safety reasons. The trains run first Sunday from Castledare and third... More
