I am a science junky - disclosure delivered. On a family vacation with 4 generations, we decided to visit the UCDavis Marine lab for a break from our beach activities. Tours are held Fridays from 2-4. Visitors can self tour limited areas on other days, but I'm not sure that would be a worthwhile experience. Our tour guide provided an... More

The UC Davis Marine Laboratory is a marine research lab that specializes in invertebrates. On Friday they open it up for the public to visit. There are guided tours starting at 2pm. While it is free, there is a donation box at the entrance. They also sell T shirts and various souvenirs. The tour takes about 1 hour. I highly... More

Unfortunately we couldn't go see any of the current research being done in the facility. I started off super excited because I am a science teacher and I thought this would be a great time to bring something exciting back for my students. The entrance was really cool because they had an open aquarium with different sea creatures in it.... More

We took a group of 11 and 12-year-olds and the adults were bored and disappointed. The kids, used to a variety of experiences at school, took it in stride and were actually more positive. There was basically nothing to see other than a few starfish and sea urchins. All the rest were tired posters, whale bones and a stuffed rockfish.... More

Expecting an educational experience, it turned out to be a dog and pony show for 8 year olds, or younger. No information on current projects. No demonstration of research techniques. Just a well worn path to view a few artifacts and end by holding a live starfish and sea urchin. My recommendation, upgrade to a presentation of what a first... More

By a lucky chance, we arrived in Bodega Bay on a Friday afternoon and the visitor's bureau recommended this tour (the lab is only open to visitors on Fridays from 2-4). Tucked next to the ocean about 15 minute drive from the mainpart of town, it is a picturesque locale. It is a working university laboratory, so you get a... More
