Lovely facility with lovely surroundings
May 2019 • Couples
If you wanted to golf in a beautiful desert setting surrounded by attractive facilities and beautiful nature, then De Anza’s for you. It has recently received a multi-million dollar update which makes it all feel tony in a comfortable sort of way. The dining room, which we didn’t experience, has a reputation for good food, both for regular meals as well as their Happy Hour program.

The landscaping is desert plush—with towering palm trees, oleanders, palo verde shrubs, cacti, sweeping lawns: healthy and beautiful, offset by dramatic mountain vistas. Nearby homes compliment the country club with additional beauty.

If only I played golf!

First class golf course

DeAnza Country Club is a private golf course. That said, you will find that they have "trial" memberships that are very affordable (see their website). That website also offers additional information about non-golf activities on the course.

At the outset, recognize that as a private golf course this course, like most others, requires "country club dress." That means appropriate shorts or long pants and a collared shirt. You will not get on the course without those.

The course is a regulation 18 hole golf course with a par of 36-36 = 72. From the white tees, the course plays 6385 yards, with a rating of 70.3 and a slope of 123.

I was there in May and June, 2016, and the course was in fantastic shape--the greens were smooth and true, with no ball marks and interesting putting. The fairways were in fantastic shape, the traps had plenty of sand, the lakes had water (apparently they have their own wells), and even the rough was totally appropriate. There are a number of trees, and the course is an interesting challenge.

Both the staff and the members I ran into were universally friendly, the carts were in great shape (Club Cars), and the course played well. I would suggest that you bring your own scope or golf GPS, because neither of those was offered. The course does have 200-150-100 markers (blue-white-red), and the flags indicate depth on the green (red is front, white center and yellow back).

The food offerings were limited (hot dogs with chips seemed to be the main dish), but the food was not exorbitantly expensive. Beer and soft drinks can be purchased at the pro shop. Water and ice are free and available. In May and June, it is extremely important that you hydrate adequately--temperatures can be murderous. You should also have plenty of sun screen.

I really can't say enough good about this course--it was an unexpectedly awesome experience.
