Chateau Montelena was one of the highlights of my first visit to Napa. The building and grounds are absolutely gorgeous. The wines are really good as well. I purchased the winter in the wineries passport, and this was one of the wineries that participated in it. I tasted 5 wines, all of which were really good. One of the benefits... More

Sorry, I don't drink wine (or any alcohol); yet I had great fun. It was cold December, I was traveling solo; yet I had great fun. I am a fan of the movie Bottle Shock. You will enjoy this place more if you watch the movie first. The Japanese pavilion and lively ducks definitely added to the experience.

Ok ok people; the cab is awesome BUT if anyone is going there to have FUN... go somewhere else. They don't allow you to buy a bottle and drink it on the grounds any more!!!! So what's the point!!??? Also they were the most strict on getting a walk in reservation for tasting. I guess they have gotten too popular... More

This is a must visit when in Napa Valley. While the winery is in Calistoga it is easily accessible from Sonoma to Napa by driving the Mark West Rd. during the day. Driving this road at night, however, is quite another thing as there is little to no lighting and A LOT of twist/turn. Trust me you don't want to... More

A piece of history sits in Chateau Montelena. Known for its cabernet and chardonnay, visitors will be surprised with the quality of their cabernet franc and zinfandels that are only available at the winery. The wines age beautifully. Prepare for a wait on the weekend unless you get lucky to make reservations for a library tasting

This is December...cold and raining but the grounds at Chateau Montelena are still amazing! What a beautiful place. The wine tasting experience was awesome. The staff, composed of "wine geeks" is very friendly and helpful. We got to try 5 wines, working our way up to the Estate Cabernet Sauvignon. Superb! A must if you are visiting Napa Valley.

Stopped by on a recommendation. Easy to find, ample parking but stairs to the main building. Nice garden path & ponds. A historical landmark where wine is still currently produced. Upstairs is a small small tasting room and kind of a gift shop. Only 6-8 people can taste comfortably. This turned us off. With time not on our side, we... More

Beautiful grounds - but incredibly poor customer service. Our first Winery visit for the day and an older gentleman who seemed to himself be in a hurry, failed to greet us or explain any of the offerings available. We live down Valley so had friends in for the week and thought CM would be a great starting point for our... More

Hello smaguy, Thank you for visiting Chateau Montelena Winery. We are happy to be a part of the Napa Neighbors program and apologize for the misunderstanding surrounding this program. There was an internal misinterpretation of the details of the offer, and we have since clarified with our staff what we offer to our Napa Neighbors. Please feel free to contact... More

This place is gorgeous - the castle, the gardens and just the surroundings. Also, they have a room explaining the history of the winery and the area and a bit about winemaking in general. Other than that the tasting was a little impersonal and formal for our taste, wines were okay. They let you split "one tasting" between a couple,... More

The setting is the whole reason to visit. After seeing the movie "Bottle Shock," we were excited to visit during the 40th year anniversary. The wine tasting was just okay.
