- Ron SNew York City, New York5,930 contributionsNational Museum of BhutanThe museum is located in the refurbished old watchtower which is in interesting edifice to see. The exhibit is mediocre though. If you're pressed for time skip it in favor of the Royal Heritage Museum in Trongsa if you travel that far.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 4 October 2023
- Peter RDartford, United Kingdom1,303 contributionsVery Interesting but poorly laid out museumThe museum is sited in an old fortress, as such the layout of the museum exhibits is not the best. Some are in glass cases along narrow corridors while others are set around the walls of a large room. The route also follows an up and down route and in some areas the ceilings are quite low. Worth a visit but no need to spend more that 45 minutes looking around. Outside there are magnificent views of the valley and mountains. There is also a second display in another building of Bhutan geology, geography and wildlife again worth a visit.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 30 October 2023

Two as a reopened museum in 2020. The design and setting is simply elegant and mindboggling. From here savour the bird’s eye Paro valley view. There are so many splendid collections listed below and about 3000 artefacts denoting the time period from stone age to modern times, a true reflection of Bhutanese cultural heritage of over 1500 years :- Copperware Bronze Textiles Paintings Carvings Weapons Ornaments Walk down a path to town from the museum, for a simply exhilarating experience ! Happy to spend time here in the cool September weather and appreciate the government’s role of preserving & promoting the cultural values of the kingdom. - TonciCroatia45 contributionsAn extremely interesting museum collection and a beautiful historical buildingAt the entrance to the museum, all the visitors must leave all their belongings in the lockers. We asked the security guard at the entrance if we could at least take our passports and money with us, but he refused. This was not nice, because the area with the lockers was not under the video surveillance. However, we cheered up as soon as we entered the museum. The museum is located in the oldest building in Paro, which originally served as a watchtower. This is a round building with 5 floors. The museum collection is really interesting. In the first part of the collection there are the objects from archaeological sites. Then comes the collection of old religious paintings, tapestries, statues, ceremonial objects etc. We were very impressed by the collection of the various folk costumes. At the end, we saw various household items that were once used. A really beautiful museum! We understand that nobody is allowed to take pictures, but they should make a book with photos of the museum exhibits to sell to the visitors. This museum deserves the highest evaluation, but the management of the museum does not.Visited December 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 20 March 2024
- CombitNew Delhi, India475 contributionsReach early as the place closes by 4 pmTruly an architectural marvel. A circular building comprising of 7 floors constructed in the 17th century orignally as a watch tower to kepp a look out for invading tribes from Tibet. Been converted into a musuem in the 60s with many artefacts and items pertaining to the various Kings and rulers of Bhutan. It is located about 30 mins from main Paro town.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 28 May 2024

The people at Enticing Bhutan have excellent guides who are very passionate about their Kingdom as is evident in the gentleness of the people we met. The driver we had was nothing short of amazing in the way we negotiated the twisty roads into the mountains.Visited May 2024Travelled on businessWritten 21 June 2024

Good scenic beauty surrounding the museum. Inside the museum (yes it is small one) only 4 units are there. Audio visual facility available. Mobile & Camera are not allowed inside. Wash room facilities are also available in the campus, which is very less in the Bhutan country

It us orginally a watch tower to look up Tibetian army attack. As time pass-by, the deserted building was converted to National museum by Third King.
It is to show case the many Bhutanese arts, fauna and flora.
The old building is currently under renovation due to earth quake to enforce the structure.

Great museum storing Bhutanese artifacts from even the 8th century. All Bhutanese masks and their significance during the festivals. Photos and information about all flora and fauna. There are some exquisite birds and animals in Bhutan. All of Bhutan's sanctuaries along with their physical maps are kept here. The snow leopard is found in northern Bhutan as is the Hornbill. The Royal Manas national park boastibg of Rhinos isshared by Bhutan and the Indian state if Assam.

This museum, situated within an old circular fortress, is fashioned like the Guggenheim in NY. You start at the top and wend your way downward through various exhibit rooms as you slowly descend.
The cultural exhibits are extensive, from fabrics and clothing to religious artifacts to agricultural tools spanning from about the 1500s. Not a long history, but sufficient to give one an insight into Bhutanese history.
We enjoyed our visit very much.

Is a small simple temporary museum, a little introduction to Bhutan culture & habitats. Just a few rooms with exhibits that takes less than an hour to complete.

are there more numbers of Bhutanese visitors or the tourists visiting the museum?
Written 5 March 2015
Local visitors far outnumber foreigners in most places in Bhutan. There are only 60000 foreigners per year in this glorious place
But Indians and Nepalese do not need visas so this may mean that there are few western or south east Asian and Chinese
visitors
