We did a quick stop here to simply check the water temperature - we are tourists and it seemed an easy place to paddle. Saw the warning signs and proceeded with care. Nice clean beach with quite a few families sitting in the sun. Not sand as it looked more like small pebbles. The Pacific was cold! Even on a... More

This is a very nice walk between the two beaches: Monastery and Carmel River State Beach. It walks you right along the coast line. No trees along this walk so if hot out the sun does beat down on you. It is a locals spot and stays less traveled. Trail is not busy but has great coastal views, esp of... More

WAVES break right on the shoreline...EASY TO GET YOUR LEGS BROKEN !!! NO BS.....similar beach in Hong Kong saw lady get slammed by a very small wave, her back or neck was broken by the water's... This is a quite beach area with a nice trail along the coast. Great dive site with very clear water. As others have said pay attention and be careful.

Sitting beneath the gaze of a place pulled out of time, the Monastery Beach is a destination worth endeavoring to. The view of Point Lobos alone is worth it, but beware of this rugged coast as its currents have been detrimental to unwary tourists. Obey all the signs and enjoy a wonderful beach away from the hustle and bustle of... More

The entry/exit was challenging, but the dive was outstanding! Don't even try to walk out of the water, just plan on doing the "Monastary Crawl" :)

As a resident let me tell all you tourists and divers. We have failtalities at this beach every year !! Some locals call it Mortuary Beach. Lots of 911 calls of people drowing, Swimmers and divers alike. Use your common sense and stay off rocks and sit higher up on the beach.

The beach is famous for whale spotting as well as seeing seals, sea otter, dolphin and sea birds, and walking through tide pools. There is an extensive trail system that runs through this area from Carmel Beach to Point Lobos. Baby seals can be seen at the southern end of Monastery beach. The beach accommodates seasoned divers. Like most beaches... More

I have never experienced a beach that only has small pebbles; where is the sand?! That was so strange and at first interesting but after awhile it began to hurt my feet. I would definitely visit again but would wear some type of fully enclosed shoe. There is no romantic walk on the beach feeling the soft sand in between... More

This beach is dog friendly. On nice days it can be very crowded. It's clean and families and couples sit on the white sand, have lunch, walk their dogs. Due to undertow, serious currents and rogue waves, this beach is not for swimming. Several accidents and fatalities happen each year. People do dive....but I would suggest you have an awful... More
