this trail is about 4 or 5 miles long, it ends at old 101 then you cycle for about 7 miles before you connect with the next Caltrans trail which exits at Bates road. you can take it up to 150 which will go to Ojai. I just cycled it back to the Ventura Pier

Good Exercise
Jul 2020
The ride starts out well but there are many miles that you are riding on an unprotected bike path on the busy Old PCH road. The part of the ride within the protected two lane, two-way bike path was very pleasant with a beautiful ocean view. Wished this protected bike path was the whole way, not just a short part of the Rincon Bike Trail. We started in Ventura and rode north to Rincon Beach.

Clean Restrooms Open to Cyclists - Ventura Co. Fire Station 25; Faria and Hobson county campgrounds
Jun 2020
About 1 mi. south of the dedicated bike lane along Highway 101 where the bike lane joins Pacific Coast Highway (1) there is Ventura County Fire Station 25 where you'll find a clean restroom accessible from the outside; bike pump and tool station, and fresh drinking water fountain and several tables. This is an excellent stop between Carpinteria and Ventura and the smart way to avoid the porta-potty toilets.
There are other restrooms open to cyclists at both Hobson and Faria Beach county campgrounds, and both have great snack bars where you can order hot meals, beverages and other nutrition drinks.

Nice views

Nice views along here of the beach and it goes near the city. Looks similar to the rest of the pacific coast highway.

Usually a good ride
Sep 2019
I live in Carpinteria and ride this trail to Ventura and back at least once a month. It's usually a good ride, though it can vary with the wind and weather. I ride through the non-trail gap on the 101, both coming and going (southbound and northbound on the return) and while requiring extra caution I've felt pretty safe - the southbound trip is a quick descent, and returning northbound it is stepp, takes a while, but the shoulder is very wide. It is possible to avoid the 101 entirely by using Bates Road/Rincon Hill Road. The new portion of the path is safe, well surfaced, usually uncrowded. You have to watch for the occasional jogger/pedestrian. If it's windy and you're into a headwind, it can be a real drudge. Same if it's cold and foggy. I would say the biggest spoiler is a strong headwind. Once you're off the new portion onto the old path it's a different story - bad surfaces, more foot traffic, and when on the original 101, now in part RV parking, you have to watch for vehicles. Some unmarked or poorly marked turns are required at the transition from the new path to the old original. Still, I keep coming back to this ride, it's mostly level, and in good weather with no wind, a really great ride and well worth it - I suspect nothing else quite like it in California, certainly way better than the Santa Monica/Venice beach path down to Redondo. There's a porta potty half way to Ventura, other than that you need to be ready to ride the full length.

World class, awesome bike trail!
Jul 2019
World class, awesome bike trail! Only negative might be the rare rogue wave at high tides that might spray water on the bike trail. Begans in Carpinteria and goes to the Ventura pier. How good is that. A good water/rest room stop is at the fire station in Faria beach.

Aways a gorgeous ocean view!
Jun 2017 • Family
Perfect bike lane, safe, comfortable, not heavily traveled, gorgeous scenery, convenient way to get from Carp to Ventura for a lunch or dinner date out. Easy to maneuver, and most enjoyable. One can travel the speed one is comfortable to do so and go, or stop at the Cliff House and enjoy a break with an appetizer.

beautiful Class A bike path

right next to the ocean, safe from freeway traffic, although the bike path seems a little narrow, especially when riding with a larger group.

Ocean side bike path
Dec 2017 • Friends
It used to be that cyclists had to ride on the shoulder of the 101 but now there is this separated bike path that runs next to the ocean and can get spray if the surf is really heavy. It is several miles long and some of the locals told me they ride this path to get to a lunch stop at Mussel Shoals. It is one of the nicest bike paths I have ever seen.

Won't find a better bike ride!

This is excellent for a bike ride. There is nothing better than being able to bike right next to the ocean! It is a good workout, fun and safe!
