It's about 2 hrs. drive from Lake Tahoe to South Fork river (meeting point) and depends on traffic. So plan ahead if you're in that area. The trek in the river at that time in July is calm and suites all levels of rafting. Occasionally we hit some bumps with class 3 rapids but not all the time. That gives... More

We went with two kids, 12 and 9- the nine year old has autism and has anxiety. We called the company ahead of time and they were great. gave our family a raft and the guide was excellent, understanding and great with my kids. it is an expensive day trip. we did the express 3 hour trip without the meal.... The Bureau of Land Management River Rangers rock. I was honored to tag along on one of their river patrol and clean-up days and let me tell you, they really do the dirty work. From cleaning toilets to collecting trash, they help keep the river safe and clean for the thousands of boaters that run the river each year.

The rapids in the Lower Gorges - South Fork of American River are amazing. These are totally beginner friendly (Class 3+) and rafting through them is great fun. My personal favorite was Satan's Cesspool. Rafting in these waters is a truly amazing and memorable experience. Everyone should try this atleast once in their life - a great adventure activity and... The gorge section of the South Fork American River is a wonderful whitewater experience. It is the best class 3 run I have ever been on. Starts out easy but becomes more difficult as you enter the gorge. Rapids are mostly pool drop. A couple of them are big and very challenging.

Great beginner rafting with fun rapids. Looking for your first trip try the south fork. Suggest American Whitewater Expedition this company provides everything and they were so much fun.

The first time we've been rafting but definitely not the last. We chose AO (All-Outdoors) who looked after us impeccably - great service, lunch, conversation and a fair price for a brilliant day.

My husband, 11 yr old and myself booked a raft trip with American Whitewater Expeditions August of 2014, our first WW raft trip ever. The river is very pretty, clean and lots of fun. I can't say enough about the outfitter we chose and our guide, both FANTASTIC! Great river to raft, lots of twists and turns and ups and... More

This river is beautiful and challenging. Our 6 hour trip is now a favorite memory. Pick your guides wisely and some discount trips also cut corners on safety. Same is true of the river photographers. Hot shots is a mass movement with no personal attention, go for the one with the pink sign. Make sure to tip your guide.
