Absolutely Perfect Oceanside layout.
Jul 2021 • Solo
This course was a ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ for me because they keep it in excellent condition with tight lies around the green. The design plays the wind and slopes very well allowing a wide variety of approach shots and flighted tee shots on par 3s these greens roll pure and there is a perfect balance of slope and green design on every hole to compliment the tee shot. I can’t wait to go back! Absolutely perfect Oceanside layout. 🏌🏽‍♂️🔥

My Sad Experience
Jul 2020
Before you read my review, I do feel that I should preface it by saying that this could be a one off experience, but nevertheless it was my experience. Let me start by saying that the staff I interacted with was phenomenal, very professional and truly 5 star service. In addition, the views from the course and some of the food is just fantastic. The rest of the experience, not so much. The green fees are high but not terribly high for the area, but when I played the course (July) the course was just in horrific condition. Holes were poorly installed, ball marks on greens everywhere, literally thousands of divots in the fairways, it seriously felt like municipal course with nice views. The group of guys I was paired with was great, they were super friendly and from out of town, but the interactions I proceeded to have with one of the members was horrific. One of the guys in my group hit a bad shot and a member came up and yelled at him for several minutes. Screamed at him cuss words, almost attacked him, used incredibly vulgar language, and when I tried to help my group member out by telling the man he had never played the course before he said "OH SHUT UP YOU KNOW THIS COURSE, YOU'VE BEEN HERE BEFORE" which was just a blatant lie, as we had NEVER played this course. Later on in the round I interacted with another member who was super nice and friendly and apologized for what happened with the other member. Nevertheless the combination of the course being in TERRIBLE condition with my less than friendly experience with some of the locals ensure that I will not be returning. I don't doubt that some people go to this course and enjoy the views and have a great time, but my experience and any possible future experiences at this course were completely and utterly destroyed. It is worth noting that had I not been engaged in that argument with a member, the conditions still would have prevented me from returning, but I probably would not have written a review.

Greetings ZAghdaei, Thank you for taking the time to write a review. Though, we are unhappy to read about the experience you had. We, unfortunately, cannot control the actions of others but are happy to say that our conditions have continued to improve since July. This year we experienced higher than usual course traffic which resulted in the course periodically falling below our high standards. We will be sure to share your positive reviews of the staff as well as the F&B with our team members. We do sincerely hope you change your mind and visit us again. We'd love for you to walk away feeling like you had a complete 5-star experience. Regards, Eric Lohman, PGA GM

Really doing a nice job
May 2020 • Solo
I joined the club upon the easing of California restrictions and I'm really glad I did .The Staff have done a great job providing people with a nice safe experience. The course is in good to great shape and the view are outstanding .What really stands out is the treatment the staff provides , they are friendly but careful , I've been thinking about joining the crown club for a while and I can't wait for all the amenities to open .If the bars and restaurants do half as good of job as the golf staff then I will be thrilled

Golf trip to San Diego
Mar 2020
Travelled up north to avoid the rain in San Diego. We thought this course was overpriced for the condition. Layout was good but would pass next time !

Golf Course to ourselves
Mar 2020
A friend and I had the unique opportunity to experience this golf course in a manner only the rich a famous could - an entire golf course nearly to ourselves! Rainy weather and the coronavirus scare kept the crowds away so we were able to get in 3 rounds of golf without having to wait for or be rushed by anyone else.

Brandon, the course manager, was actually the one who put our bags on the cart and set us up for the day. He was especially gracious and accommodating, even with the lack of patrons. The starter helped us out where ever and whenever possible, and we could not have been happier with the staff.

Give Monarch Beach golf a go if you're in the area looking for a terrific course. Although slightly easier as a resort course, it has some pretty challenging holes for every level. Plus you can't beat to absolute beauty of holes #3 and #4, pars 4 and 3 respectively, right down on the beach. SoCal at it's finest!

Great course with outstanding ocean proximity and post card quality views
Jan 2020
A well created layout with good scoring opportunities for accurate shots. Staff is very welcoming and accommodating at every turn. Best of all is the brisk pace of play which almost ensures a 4 hour to 4 hour 15 minute round for morning tee times. A great choice for a relaxing and memorable round.

Beautifully maintained!

This golf course is a beautiful property and is meticulously maintained. The course isn’t super long and travels thru the canyons pretty well. Some holes are obviously cut because of the terrain and are slightly weird. Great fun though and worth the play!

Quick 18 on my wedding day before I tied the knot
Oct 2019 • Friends
We had an early morning tee time for 7 guys and from the time we entered the pro shop, everything was A+ . Complimentary cookies, coffee and juice great selection of golf swag for all golfers . The check in process was great, even with 3 guys renting clubs and shoes . The course was in immaculate shape fairways were carpet and greens were receptive and true. Throw in a handful of true along the ocean holes and it made for one of the best days ever . Well worth the $200us price tag .
Tip for the golfer who wants to play and rent clubs.
If you book a tee time 24 hours in advance you qualify for “drop in rate “ and the course throws in rental clubs shoes and balls for free !

Very pretty course, but be aware of the negatives
Sep 2019 • Couples
We are here for a few days staying next door at the Ritz, which doesn’t have its own course, so this is considered their course, and I made the tee time through the concierge. I did get a lift over from the valet staff at the Ritz. The pro shop and staff are very, very nice, the course is very pretty, with some beautiful views of the ocean and beach, and the greens are so smooth I had to check to be sure it was actually grass. Great bunkers and sand as well are pluses. Now my beefs: first, as many others have said, there is no driving range. So, for over $225 a round you have the choice only of hitting from four slots into a net. Personally, I like to know if I’m slicing my drives today before going out on the first tee, where incidentally if you slice you’re going in the water. Of these four lanes, one is for lefties, and two were being used for a lesson, so the paying customers were lined up. I didn’t see a bunker or chipping area, although there is a nice putting green. Second, this is a par 70 with three par threes and only one five on the back. On the front you have two par threes in a row, and on the back 13, 15, and 17 are all threes. Again, for over $225 I’m expecting more. Finally, the pace of play is absurd. We played the front in two and a half hours, and the back a snappy two hours and 20 minutes. Really? Was anyone trying to move it along? And that was for an 8:50 tee time. How long does it take if you start at 11:00? Six hours? Leisurely pace is one thing, but we literally waited on every single shot after the fourth tee except our own putts. I’m sure all of the par threes contributes to the poor pace management, but they need to look at some kind of a re-configuration change or they are going to lose their base. Next time I’m in the neighborhood, I’m going back to Pelican Hill.

Greetings ThomasD827, Thank you for taking the time to review your experience and we are glad that we had the chance to host you. Of course, we wish that you had a more positive and memorable experience. We certainly understand that playing a par 70 isn't always favorable, but that is how RTJ Jr. designed MBGL. Since he built the course in the 80's we have added tee boxes, removed bunkers, renovated fairways and removed some trees. We are always striving to provide the best experience with the property we have. As for the pace, I can assure you that this is always top of mind. Our Golf Shop staff is trained to continually look at the GPS to do our best and solve problems before they arise. Our Player Assistants are also all trained to keep a close eye on pace and ask groups who fall too far behind to skip holes. I believe you are an avid golfer so you're aware that even at that time in the morning just one group can negatively affect pace for the entire rest of the day. Lastly, when this property was designed and built, the original owners felt that a driving range wasn't a necessity for the resort golfer who typically arrives close to tee off time and instead have utilized this land for homes and resort usage. Because of this, we have the option for certain windows of tee times to actually hit golf balls on one of our fairways prior to tee off. We call this our mobile driving range, available for $25 pp, minimum of two guests required to participate. More on this can be found here: www.monarchbeachgolf.com/Driving-Range.html With all that being said, we sincerely do hope you had some fun with us, enjoyed the views, the music, the F&B and had positive experience with our team members. We would enjoy hosting you again! Kind regards, Eric Lohman, PGA GM
