Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We have 3 kids ages 9, 7, and 3, and a dog, and stayed here for a family reunion for a week. Just got home today, July 2nd, 2021. We camped in our trailer and were surprised at how big the sites were. Other family members had sites close by and we were able to position our trailers to block the wind. Kids loved how close it was to the beach, and played many days in the sand dune with a bunch of other kids. We got there on a weekend night, and our neighbor played their music loudly until 3am, so maybe don’t come on a weekend night or holiday weekend if you’re wanting quiet nights. They left the next day and it was very quiet until today when everyone started rolling in for the holiday weekend. The marina is so close and convenient. Guys in our group went out on the boats or went clamming in the mornings and had a great time. Front office, and Marina store staff were great, and very helpful. Portapotties were cleaned out 3 times in the short time we were there, and always had TP, so I felt they were well maintained. Convenient dump stations for RV’s, very dog friendly, easy gravel paths for the kids to ride bikes, and the closest, most beautiful beach. The hill you have to make it over to get to the beach is definitely not handicap/elderly/out of shape friendly but we made the climb many times anyway, because…it’s the beach. We mostly enjoyed a break from the Fresno heat, and a chance to soak up that coastal weather.

8/4/24.. 2 words to summarize the whole day. The bathrooms!! They were disgusting and disappointing. They looked like they hadn’t been cleaned since the beginning of last year. So much nasty grime and grossness in each toilet/stall. We paid $16 for the day. There are tons of reviews about this place and its restrooms. There were puddles in each stall and poop up to the brim of the bowl. It hadn’t rained in weeks, so I know those puddles are not plain water. (Gross) The owners get a little upset when called out on this situation. But they have No excuses for the nastiness at there place. We will not be back for any fishing or crabbing or any kind of visiting until this is resolved. Good luck if you don’t head this warning.

We were invited to join my boss and co-workers for a campout at Lawsons Landing. We arrived on Friday night after dark, and found it very difficult to find our campsite; the numbers on the posts are small and far from the lane, and could only be seen by getting out of our vehicle and walking up to the posts. Eventually we found our spacious spot and pulled in for van-camping.
Whether you are delighted or disappointed with this campground will depend on your expectations. This is not (1) a luxury campground, nor is it (2) a quaint, quiet state park. It's designed primarily for RV camping.

This place has a monopoly on camping in a primo location. However we found it to be pretty awful. We did not feel one bit welcomed by the uninterested entry attendant, the campsite layout was chaotic and confusing, and generators ran all around us long after the 9pm "quiet time." We really felt gouged after paying $60+ per night for two nights. Services touted include wifi (available at camp store, but where is that? We weren't given any map or any information other than a long list of rules) and a dozen port-a-potties scattered around. We left at 7:00 am after one night.

We camp with a 5th wheel and usually go to Lawson's 2-3 times a year. We love spring and fall here. There is a beautiful dog friendly beach. Water and dump stations available. The staff is friendly and helpful.

Lawson Landing at Dillon Beach is a pretty cool place to go clamming and crabbing. It is quiet and well maintained.
I would usually give the place a five stars, but this year, they claimed that because of COVID 19, they would not rent boats, which ruined our annual trip there.
Really? With the exception of the cashier, no one on the beach or elsewhere was wearing a mask. Why would you be concerned about COVID when you are on a boat by yourself or even with another person or two and you are in the middle of the water or on a sand bar? Totally ridiculous!!
These people need to stop drinking the Newsom Kool -Aid!

I was here for a 2 day weekend and it could not end quick enough! I have camped all over California, but I have never camped in such horrible conditions. Ok, first the good part.... the beach, it's beautiful. However, I suggest you save your money and drive a little further north to Doran or Bodega Parks to camp. This place has NO bathrooms to speak of, there is a concrete shack they call a bathroom but I wouldn't send my worse enemy in there. They do have some rather fragrant porta-potties that are conveniently situated right next to the garbage dumpsters so you get both odors filtering through your nostrils at once! Might be different if the dumpsters were emptied, but nope.... they are overflowing and stink like crazy! The camp sites are situated so close to each other, (in a dirt parking lot) that if your neighbor sneezed, it would get on you. Then there's the music.... lots of loud, dueling RV's blasting "their" favorite tunes. How lovely!
But the icing on the cake is the cows.... lots of them and they roam right through the campground. Which means that there's lots of cow pies everywhere, watch YOUR step especially at night, because you will step in it.
The folks that own this place have owned it forever, there's quite the feuding history if you go into town and talk to the locals. It's obvious that they don't intend to do any upgrades, even running water or electricity, however they do rake in the bucks!
Why anyone would stay here is a mystery to me.
Again, not my place at all for camping and I will never return.

We had a family reunion in July I'm guessing we will never go back again. they charged my debit card for $40.00 they said extra car, which is a bunch of crap. I was there and seen a few campsites with 2 trailers and 3 vehicles and they say only 2 per camp side. I was never told about the extra charge until I looked at my bank statement. this will be my last time going there next year we are going to Doran beach at least there they have showers and regular bathrooms. might be little bit more money and we have to pay for our dogs, but will be worth it.

For years we have rented a home at Dillon Beach and for years their little Market has been such a fun place to visit. Always a go-to stop on the walk down hill to the beach. And now the market has been remodeled in to a pricey - no souvenirs - San Francisco corner market. Done are the kites, shells, and other beach items, modestly priced T-Shirts and hoodies, candy, ice cream etc., items that the kids loved to save their money and shop each day. When I asked what happened to the market the staff person said "the new owners felt they had to upgrade it to modern times." We could not locate prices on the wines etc, but when we asked the costs we turned around and walked out the door! I predict that the market will fail as time goes by!! Patricia

Thank you for the review but the store you mention in your review is not affiliated with Lawsons Landing. We are the campground further down the beach, but good news we have a store that offers candy, kites, shells, and other coastal gifts! Come visit us next time you rent a home in Dillon beach. If you are driving go to the entrance of the campground and mention you are going to the store, they will give you a temporary pass without charge allowing time for you to shop our store.

I gave it 1 star although the location is great & the sites are ok they do have water hook ups that is it, that is all that's good about it. Don't expect to go camping with your trailer and boat if you need to have 2 vehicles to get them there. Don't expect to have a big family camping trip there if you need only one site but more then one vehicle. They won't let you keep your second vehicle inside the camp grounds over night. You have to find somewhere in town to park it, then you will have to pay the $10 day use to get it back in. If you should leave it in the campsite with out taking it out they will charge you $40 a day. Makes no sense right? I understand limiting the number of vehicles to a campsite. 2 is reasonable, but 1 is not. That is just stupid. The only reason anyone goes there is to fish, crab & dig clams how are we suppose to bring a trailer and a boat? Oh you think you are clever and have a cabover camper or RV then you can have another vehicle? Nope a friend tried that it counts as your 1 vehicle. Think you can go with more then one car and offer to pay extra, don't even think about it they will deny you then be extremely rude about it. The people running it are horrible and rude. They can't even be gracious about taking your money. We will never go back which is a shame we use to love that place & had many years of fun camping there.

We will be coming from Sacramento for the day & have 2 dogs. Do we need to make a reservation & purchase the Day Pass for $20 before we visit?

I'm brand new to RVing. I bought a 33 ft rig to fit my family. Ive only driven it once to a pretty easily accessible place.
How difficult is the drive to Lawsons Landing? Any steep, narrow winding roads?
Thank you!
Written 28 March 2018
Where are you coming from. The road from 101 to Lawson's is good. the only winding part is when you leave the main highway and it is not bad. there is one sharp corner as you get to Dillons beach. I don't have any problem with my 30' trailer.

Is there a place to fill our water tank once we get there?
Written 17 August 2017
I wouldn't ... in fact, I wouldn't waste your time or money. The problem with tent camping is that when the cows roam free (which is pretty cool) they leave unwanted presents.... everywhere! I wouldn't want to camp in a tent here at all. The place is pretty run down and over crowded.

What is the best spot for tent camping? As far away from RV's, dumpsters, and port a potties as possible :)
Written 1 March 2015
Sorry Naomi, there isn't one. This is the most disgusting place to camp. The porta potties and dumpsters REEK ! Cow poo everywhere, no one around to help you and super loud dueling music from various RV's. The camp sites are so close to each other that you can practically hear your neighbor snore... you can certainly hear every conversation they are having. Save your money and go further north to Bodega Dunes or Doran Beach. Do NOT stay here, it's a dump!
