I enjoyed visiting San Pasqual Battlefield. It is not very large, so between the musuem and the trials, you could do it within a few hours. If you climb to the top of the trail, you get a beautiful view of the valley.. The battlefield is maybe about 5 or so minutes from the safari park.

Small museum with historical markers on the grounds. Local history is interesting. Less than an hour to visit. Brief film overview worth watching. Great views of San Pasqual Valley from the hiking trail. Although the trail is steep, narrow and well maintained. Seating at the top for viewing the sites.

I passed this on my way from Ramona to Oceanside. Being retired military, I'm always interested in military history. I happened to stop on the first Sunday of the month where a talk is given and a cannon fired by docents. I did not know anything about the battle but I'm glad I stopped. I learned more about the CA-Mexican... More

I love this place and bring friends and family here for outings. Just put together a tour for a group of 40+ members of the Los Californianos organization. Very knowledgeable docents.

Mexican -American War, both claimed victory so should be remembered on both sides. Should be on par with the "5 de Mayo" battle at Puebla. A must for all locals since this is key part of how the west was won. Kids of all ages. Small museum and short hiking trails.

We thoroughly enjoyed our list to this smaller museum/visitor center with its informative volunteer. Good displays - be sure to see the lance that the Californios used and how they used it. Film is dated but gives a good overview. And, speaking of overview - take the nature trail in back of the visitor center to the top and take... More

I live in Escondido Ca. approximately 5 miles from the historic park and have hiked it many times. However according to historians this may not be the exact location of the battle?... The museum is very informative and factual. But as stated I have read many articles that discount this location as the actual battlefield site. Whether right or wrong... More

We visited San Pasqual Battlefield State Historic Park. The park is there to honor the soldiers who on December 6, 1846 fought bteween US and California forums. The battle was part of the Mexican-American War. Both Generals Stephen Kearny and General Andres Pico claimed victory. There are places to walk to see the battlefield as well as a visitor center/museum.... More

Drove by on my way to juilan and saw it was open. I was really glad I stopped in. I have lived in California for a few years now but had no idea of the history of the area. It was nice to see all of the exhibits and to walk the area. I have been to a large amount... More

This was the site of the bloodiest California battle in the Mexican-American War. The battle occurred in the valley immediately below the site, when California Governor Andrés Pico's 'Californio' troops and cavalry ambushed and overwhelmed Stephen W. Kearny's "Army of the West" forcing them to retreat up the hill on which this State Park stands and dig in. And Pico's... More
