About
We are a small family owned winery located in the heart of the Sonoma Valley. We believe that single vineyard wines make for the most interesting and satisifying drinking! Since the early 1990's we've constantly looked for those vineyards that provide a great match between terroir and varietal. The result is an array of small batch, single-vineyard wines that meet our criteria. Whether the vineyard is in Sonoma or Napa, or our own estate, our pledge to you is that we will produce a collection of wines that are always interesting, always compelling and always delicious. Making over 20 varitals of wine there is always something you can find that fits your taste here at Mayo!

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Nice guy who ran the intro session but frankly the wines just weren’t very good. Pretty little patio but it felt sort of stuck alongside the highway. We went as part of a tour and felt the neither the wines nor the experience were worth the tasting fee.

The only positive part of our experience was that they accommodated a tasting during a time of reservations only. Then again, I wish they would have not done so. I cannot say it was the least bit enjoyable wine tasting. None of the wines were acceptable andI wish they had a spitoon for an expectorant. Walked away incredibly disappointed, which I have never done.

Well, the Mayo Winery wasn't great nor was it bad, just ok. The guy that was the host(I think his name was Bob)of the tasting was great! That made up for a lot of the shortcomings of the winery. I joined their wine club and bought 6 bottles and had them shipped to me in Oklahoma. That's where the troubles started, it was to be at my house on a Wed, and it didn't show up, I called them on two occasions, on my second call to them, I was hoping they would say, they would put a stop to that first shipment, and send me out fresh bottles. No, they wanted me to keep the old bottles, that were sitting around in a warehouse for seven days or so, and if you know wine that may not be good! I'm all for the small family-run businesses, but they need to step up their processes.

Visited Mayo Family Winery as part of our wine tour with Edge of the World tours. We started with a very informative tour/education in the production/barrel room where I learned more about the wine making process than any other wine tour I have been on. We then tasted six of their wines including their award winning Zinfandel Port wine. Enjoyed most of them and would have purchased some if I could have shipped them home to Canada.

We’ve all been there.. it’s late in the day and you just want to leave work- that’s what happened to us at the Mayo Reserve Tasting Room. First let me say the tasting is along the highway- it’s very noisy outside and a realtor is located in the same building. We were having a great day and had reserved a tasting for 5pm having been to two other tastings earlier in the day. We were excited for the food. It was really bad. A chicken wing, a shot glass of some sort of purée, a pasty dessert. The wine was ok but the atmosphere was rotten. The chef was not nice and just wanted to leave. We get it- it sucks to serve people having a good time late in the day but then don’t offer 5pm wine pairings. We didn’t appreciate his side comments and clearly would not recommend this “experience”.

As a newby to wining we flew to wine country to see what it was all about. We stopped at several places in the valleys. I swirled, sniffed, sipped, sloshed and swallowed with the best of them.

But it was here at Mayo where we scheduled a pairing. Okay, we didn't schedule it. We just stopped in and were welcomed. The chef was superb. His friendly personality, knowledge and ability to educate and inspire was second to none, except to his cooking and paring.

It was this moment, one sip, one bite and another sip.

Flavor explosions were barely contained in my mouth.

This is when I gained a glimpse of what it was all about.

I got it.

My sliver of knowledge was ignited and my skills are tested each chance I get.

I don't know when, but we will return to this part of the country, and mayo will be at the top of the list!

The people at Mayo were very friendly and informative. I had 9 different samples in my tasting. Our Hostess explained all of the varietals and the information was very helpful.
Not exactly my tastes, but I would recommend stopping.

My husband and I just happened to stop here because they were open later than all the other wineries and we were at the end of our day LOL! It was a nice surprise :-) fun atmosphere, great wine and very attentive tasting room ladies. I recommend this as a stop in the Sonoma wine country!

We LOVE Mayo Family Winery. They boast an amazing selection of wines and their tasting room staff will make sure you find one you love! Very laid back and welcoming atmosphere and our two favorite winery dogs, Miss Nibby & Gus, always greet us at the door. One of our favorite things to is grab lunch at the Glen Ellen Market, and enjoy it in their courtyard with a bottle (or two) of the blanc de blanc sparkling wine. Their location on the corner of Arnold & Highway 12 make it easy to get in/out and a great place to meet friends as well!

Huge Bonus - They're open later than all of the other tasting rooms (most close at 4:00) - but Mayo is usually open until at least 6. If you haven't tried their wines, you need to, especially the bubbles. We love bubbles and theirs are our favorite! (coming from a local Sonoman!) This is definitely our FAVORITE Sonoma winery and know you'll enjoy it too. They have a 2nd location in Kenwood where they pair their wines with amazing bites - it's a must try!

Looking forward to many more visits and even more bottles of wine!

Being from the Rochester, MN area, we were curious if this Mayo family was related to the founders of the Mayo Clinic. Wasn't the case but a pleasant stop anyway. Enjoyed the vintage Chevy pickup truck on display.
